An electrician shared a story with me about a particular construction job at Edwards way back in the early 70's. The location could only be accessed and egressed based on Russian satellite orbits. It was a huge underground structure built like a stadium. His work was related to specialized air conditioning or filter wiring. He had never seen the like of the technology before nor after. The underground structure was enclosed on top by two lifting doors (huge doors that opened skyward) that even had a railroad line running over the top. There were huge pylons that he guessed were "landing pads" or something. They didn't make any sense to him unless something was supposed to rest on them. Whatever that something was, he said it would have had to have been huge. He would not be surprised if he had really worked on a project that was to hold a new kind of craft. I wouldn't be surprised either based on his extensive background at China Lake, Edwards project...
