Years ago I was working in Taft. One day my wife needed my car so I bummed a ride to and from work from another employee. Driving to work was no problem: Lots of coffee and even a bag of donuts. The drive home was another matter: Work let out at 4:00 PM and at 4:13 PM, the guy giving me my ride stopped at a liquor store in Taft for his "drive home drink" consisting of a one pint bottle of Jack Daniels. From the liquor store he drove straight to McDonald's for a medium coke. Before he had even left the McDonald's parking lot he poured out half of the Coke and poured the entire pint of Jack Daniels into his cup of Coke and was contentedly sipping his favorite beverage while driving. Not wanting to end up as a blood puddle, I insisted he drop me off at the small park located along Taft Highway on the outskirts of town where I used a payphone to...
