In the 50's my brother and friends had a head start on water skiing locally by tying a piece of corrugated tin to the back of their old jalopy and towing each other down the canals (via the banks of course.) The kids were still doing that on the H Street canal when I was in high school. Of course there were no houses out there then let alone fences. Kids will find places to play and dragons to slay..it's their nature.
