In a democracy where everyone has an equal voice, expect alot of shouting to be heard. Money translates into air time. Conflict of interest is not always obvious if large donations are hidden by sham "committees" for election. Elaborate propaganda "paid for by the Commitee to Elect Catpaw for Dogcatcher" could be a million dollars from a fur coat company. The idea of limiting donations is to give an opponent more of an equal voice and (hopefully) limit the influence of special interests on elections.
