Hi Robin. I actually attended UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism from 2001-2003. After researching journalism graduate programs across the country, it was the only one I decide to apply for (thank god I got in!) because it is all practical, hands-on training. Very little theory. That is where I learned about new media, multimedia, and innovation in journalism in the digital age! Unfortunately, Cal does not have an undergraduate journalism program. However, you don't have to major in journalism to be a journalist. For example, if you are interested in health reporting, you might go for a degree in public health with a minor in communications. Cal does have a daily campus paper, which you could participate in as a student activity. The Renegade Rip at BC is a great place to start though. It wins several awards and Danny Edwards, the lead instructor, is a great mentor. As for state schools, I recommend San Jose State, San Francisco State and Sacramento State's journalism...
