trl1717, said it best. Crate training really works and is not a punishment for a young dog. We have a little terrier mix almost a year old that we adopted from the SPCA. We had him in penned little area for a couple of months for get acquainted times until we knew he could be relied upon to take his business outdoors on a regular basis. Treat training when the pet does what you ask him/her to do is essential as well to get good potty training and social habits down. Good luck!
