I'm Lisa Schencker, The Bakersfield Californian's education reporter. I write about students, parents, school boards, teachers, administrators, budgets, and successes and challenges in our schools. This is an interesting time for education both in Kern County and across the nation. No Child Left Behind has changed the face of education. School is a much different place today than it was even 10 years ago. Kern County's schools are also among the fastest growing in the state. My goal is to show parents what's going on in their children's classrooms and to show taxpayers what's being done with their dollars. Kern County has more than 250 schools. Each of those schools holds tons of stories waiting to be told. This blog is a way for me to tell some of those stories (things that don't always make the paper), a way for me to answer  your questions and a way for you to share your story ideas with me.
