About Susan

Welcome to my Bakersfield.com Profile!

Each day I get up to see the beautiful clear skies and sunshine here in Bakersfield I am reminded of the decades spent under the influence...of gray skies, drizzle and rain.

Sure Seattle Washington was a great place to grow up with theatre and the arts, winter sports galore, rivers mountains and lakes abounding...but the promise of 9 months of rain each year can get old...especially if you love the sun! Oh, did I mention a lot of the work I do is OUTSIDE?

Now don't try to tell me, "I love the rain". LOL. You do not! You may enjoy a sprinkle here and there, an intermittant or sudden and temporary downpour...but a lifetime of the Seattle Washington rain you don't love. There is no possible way my friend!

Not when the skies are a dull dark gray for weeks at a time, sopping precipitation laden winds blow the sheets of rain sideways day in and day out and there's a surefire promise of more of that in the near and distant future...to come.

One of the most common symptoms of this, how the rain can become a limiting value in daily existance is when, on a Saturday morning you open the door to a constant drizzle, a gust of arctic air hits you upside the face as you say, "Oh, it's raining again".

Here and now.

Want to know the truth? I am extremely glad to be right here in Bakersfield California.  It is about as clost to Heaven as I have been, especially when I awake to see the clear skies and the sun shining, even if it is cold in the morning. I am honestly elated to have retired the rain gear and long underwear, especially during the colder winter months!

Me? First I am a Mom. I jokingly call my 16 year old daughter  "My Boss".  I am also a JW, journeyman wireman (electrician) and have been since 1982. It is still a learning curve after all these years.

At age 17 and a half after going broke trying to stay in college, I followed in my Dad's footsteps and began working as an electrician's apprentice in IBEW Local #46, Seattle WA, 1977.

This was done against my Dad's pleas not to do it, but I was not making ends meet trying to work and attend college.

My reasons for starting this prevailed and I knowingly stepped into an arena where there might be centuries of controversy in my face at any given time. My methods to succeed in this male dominated career choice were to use understanding, not radical rebellion or fighting the system or trying to change it but to work within it following all the guidelines, so not a single person could ever say I used my being female as leverage.

The youngest of six kids I was the only one who really worked with my Dad on his electrical (and other handyman things) side projects including building numerous wooden boats and helping family & friends with home repairs.

I also worked with him in the trade on big commercial jobs later on. He never ceased to amaze me with his vast knowledge and skills whether they be motor controls, cable splicing, carpentry, plumbing what have you. Later on I realized how much he meant to me and how well he was respected among the 'brothers' in my Local.

Dad's been gone for several years now, but he is in my thoughts every day. I miss him terribly! Aesbestos cancer took him rather quickly after the chemo started.

As an adult I Lived in Seattle on and off until we decided to move to Santa Barbara where my daughters Dad had lived and worked as a commercial fisherman before.
The move was the best thing we could have done, especially after entirely too much gray and gloomy skies, rain and drizzle had, unbeknownst to me had affected my otherwise sunny disposition.

September 2005, due to a job transfer we moved to Bakersfield which I now refer to as "home".
I had heard of Bakersfield on and off in the news,  Creedence Clearwater's reference to Bakersfield in one of their songs and Buck Owens Streets of Bakersfield song. However, I had never even stopped in Bakersfield even while passing through.

Over the past 3 years I have really come to appreciate and love this town, it's location weather and people!

Let's see...
I've always wanted to have an internet business but never knew where to start. You know, stop commuting, say good-bye to commuting and the 9 to 5 monotony.
Surely I am not alone there?
When I took up computers it only seemed natural to take it one step forward. I decided it would be fun to figure out how to make enough money to replace our incomes with an Internet business.

On that note, I am always learning. The more I learn the more I think there is to know.

It is true, Internet business and marketing online is quite a steep and rugged painstaking learning curve...to say the least. If you are even remotely interested in an e Biz of your own visit some of My Favorite URL's, or drop myself or my partner Jer a line. Visit  JerSooz.com Ezine Blog, and Websites you will see countless ways you too can have fun and maybe make some money with your hobby or passions, online.

I love people, animals, writing, reading, nature, art, music (live music is best) science, wildlife, A A N R ...the sun and the heat. No more rainy days months years for me.

Oh, did I say I love this town, Bakersfield!

Let's see....
If it says "Jeep" count me in! I love anything Jeep really. It's a Jeep thing, ya know!

I love to get out and do new and different things around town (and across the states) by Jeep, (of course!) plane mountain bike even,  just for the adventure.

Hey! Does anyone around here do Hit Air Ballooning?

That's it for now....Helloooooooo Bakersfield!
