About Emily
I cover health and the medical community for the Californian. I write about everything from the patient who pulls through to the big medical breakthroughs to the major goings-on at the hospitals, and many things in between. Got any story ideas for me? I'm not a long-time Bakersfield resident. I'm originally from the Cincinnati suburb of Florence, Ky., and came to Bakersfield in April 2006. I've worked for The Kentucky Post, The (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot, The Cincinnati Enquirer, The Detroit News and The Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader. I spent a very fun summer in Chicago as part of Northwestern University's Academy for Alternative Journalism and then stayed on in the Windy City, working as a personal assistant to a freelance writer. I'm part of a large and loving family. I'm a proud aunt of two beautiful girls: Abryella Renee and Devin Nicole. Aside from researching the latest ailments and treatments, I like creative writing, film, alternative music, TV quiz shows, painting, meeting new people and traveling around this great state.
