Hello Friend,
I’m nothing fancy, or special, just me! I’m a father of the greatest, most well behaved little girl. I teach at two of the best schools in Bakersfield, Garces High, the best in academics, and the Bakersfield Adult School, whose staff and students are such great people. The subjects I teach are English and History. I also coach the Garces debate team, and we travel a great deal in search of good competition. I’m also the president and chairman of the Fort Tejon Historical Association, a society of 400+ people who are dedicated to preserving the historic site at Ft. Tejon Park, south of town. We also put on civil war reenactments, which may explain the strange outfit in my profile picture.
I’m enjoy movies, challenging problems, and situations that make you think. I can find creative solutions to lots of problems. I’m a thinker, but because of that I can be scatterbrained; I’m never a flake, but I can be forgetful of small details. I enjoy discussions about religion, politics, and philosophy. You have to at least be able to tolerate those things to enjoy my company for more than a little while. At the same time that I enjoy those things, I pride myself on my objectivity, and never try to convert others to my way of thinking, so you don’t have to worry that I’ll try to change your religion or political affiliation. I also have a good sense of humor and make jokes constantly. I appreciate good satire and would even make a joke (I think) on my way to the gallows!
Just so you know what I believe as a person, I’ll explain. First, I think the world is absolutely perfect, just the way it is. It’s not supposed to be any different, and it can’t be changed. You can make a difference in your own area of influence, but no person can change the world--I'm quite fine with this! Second, I believe that good and evil both serve a purpose and what is good for one is evil for another. I believe that life lives on life, things live only because other things die. I believe the secret to lifelong happiness is to find contentment with and what one has and where one is, we must live life on its own terms, not ours. But I also do not believe in a passive existence, I believe that we should strive to make a difference in our own world, just we need to have realistic expectations. I believe that WE are the deciders, not the President, because we live in a free market democratic republic, where we vote in political elections, and our dollars count as economic votes. I believe in evolution, and life on other planets, but I don't beileve we've ever been visited by aliens, nor ever will be. I don't believe Star Trek is even remotely possible; I believe we have a far more mundane future ahead of us. Finally, I believe in mercy and forgiveness, one must always show mercy, if asked. I believe the worst feeling is a broken heart, so we should do all we can to avoid such things and facilitate healing. But I also believe that life is painful, yet wonderful. Death is easy, life is difficult, yet beautiful. Life is worth living, in all its painful, beautiful glory. "Vita Brevis, Tempus Fugit."
And that is me.
