About ssamano

Originally, I grew up in Gonzales, Calif., right in the heart of the Salinas Valley (You know, the Salad Bowl?). If you've ever driven down the 101 and seen that giant water tower off the freeway, that's my hometown. I went to Palma High School in Salinas, where I played football and wrestled. After high school it was off to San Diego State, where I graduated in 2005 with my bachelor's degree in journalism and a minor in political science.

I come to Bakersfield from Vallejo, up in the Bay Area, where I was a sports writer at the Times-Herald. Before that I wrote for the North County Times in Escondido, down near San Diego.

I'll be covering a bit of everything here at The Californian — preps, colleges and community sports. And I'll be the main guy providing you with news and information on the NBA D-League's Bakersfield Jam.

I'm an outgoing guy who keeps it real, not shy at all, not afraid of feedback/criticism, either, so feel free to drop me an e-mail or a phone call whenever you have a question or comment about something.
