About theinterns

Five of us are interning here this summer: Maggie, Drew, Amy, Emileigh, and the  copy desk intern who has yet to start.

1. Maggie:
I'm from a 300-person town in Iowa called Corwith. I just graduated from the University of Iowa this past May with a double major in journalism and art history. I'm here interning for the summer and then back to Iowa City where I have a job doing marketing with the Museum of Art for a year. After that, who knows!
I like people who know an incredible amount about one particular subject, the way it smells after a thunderstorm, climbing trees, vintage clothing, shoes, Marcel Duchamp, Salvador Dali, classic rock music,  long emails from friends, knowing a place so well that you know five different ways to get anywhere, maps, adventurers, garage sales, exploring old buildings, dreams of any sort, earrings, and my family.
I don't like being lost when I'm late, when people use the last of the toilet paper and don't replace it, shampoo, conditioner, juice or whatever containers that have just enough left in them that I can't throw them away, Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol, trying to sleep when I'm hot, and when people cover their windows with blankets to block out the sun.

2. Drew: Attends University of Michigan.

3. Amy: is a Texan grad student who, when she's not at the Californian, is studying photography at University of Missouri--Columbia.

4. Emileigh:
I'm an Oxford, Mississippi native and a student at the University of Iowa -- journalism and creative writing.
My pet peeves are people who are pretentious and people who insult the south. I am most scared of crawdads and getting married.
I love trivia, learning new words, snow, snow balls, snow sledding, snow angels, snow grafitti, ice cream in the morning, the midwest, the south, the west, the southwest, trading posts, and a variety of other things. When I'm not journalism-ing, I collect coffee cups with other people's names on them and used Tennessee Williams books/plays/poems/pictures/letters. Sometimes when I'm on vacation, I like to buy magnets.

5. The elusive copy editor. Don't worry, we don't know who she is yet, either.
