About Zach
I'm originally from Albuquerque, N.M., where I reached my (limited) athletic ceiling by struggling onto my high school's soccer, wrestling and tennis teams. Actually, I was pretty good at tennis. Sort of. I went to college at the University of Missouri's journalism school in Columbia, Mo., covering MU football, basketball, baseball and volleyball for a student publication and a local paper. After that, it was on to Joplin, Mo., where I was the lead preps writer and the Pittsburg (Kan.) State University beat writer before moving back west to Bakersfield. In college, I also had summer internships at ESPN the Magazine in New York and the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post. I'm an outgoing guy, crazy (not sure if that's in a good way, either) about sports, and there's nothing I hate more than people who try to sugarcoat or hide from the truth, so I'll tell it like it is.
