This Thanksgiving the members of the Bakersfield High School FFA collected food to be given to families who would not have been to celebrate otherwise. The chapter’s community partner– Safe Havens Counseling collected enough food to feed eight families that were identified by the Safe Haven’s Counseling center, a center that deals with giving adults parenting lessons plus trying to help them. The Bakersfield FFA also collects canned food and Christmas gifts to give to families that don’t have the means to afford the food or gifts. This local FFA chapter, in addition to gathering the items close to the time that the high school starts its finals week, has the chapter members spend time during their lunch and after school to make tie blankets for each family. Simultaneously the chapter will wrap all the gifts that were brought for the families and personally deliver the gifts to the family’s home. It is always an honor for our members to see the overwhelming joy when the children and parents receive the gifts, knowing that they made their Christmas better.
