Boy Scouts of America celebrates 100 Years in 2010.

Scouting is a program for families and all scouts, families, alumni & friends are invited to this special event.

This event is part of the 100 Year Anniversary celebration - Current scouts will be bringing a buddy to experience Scouting in a "cool" way. A special presentation will be made to the Council by the National BSA "Century of Values" Team followed by scouts, buddies, families & friends hitting the ice for some skating fun.

Not yet a Scout? All boys first grade thru the age of 20 are eligible for the Scouting programs. Girls 14 thru 20 are also eligible through the Venturing program.

Used to be a Scout? All alumni are invited to re-engage in the Scouting program. Remember all those great memories of your Scouting experiences - here's a chance to re-energize that Scouting spirit.

Art night is for the curious individual with the desire to create. Whether you haven't used a paintbrush in years or were always afraid to try oil pastels, this could be the creative outlet for you. Art night is time to escape and take a journey to explore different mediums and variety of ways of creating art. Learn to create your own meditation tools by simply enjoying the process of creation. Simple exercises will be introduced week to encourage personal growth and understanding of ones self. Each week we will concentrate on personal work as well as a group project. Time is set aside each week for personal reflection and sharing. Each class is ended with a challenge to continue to encourage the newly awakened artist within you. I hope to create a positive and supportive atmosphere where you may feel relaxed and comfortable to allow yourself to let go and create. I invite you to come join and share the adventures to the journey within.
Class 1 November 10th- "Introduction to art materials and different mediums."
Learn the art of letting go and clearing the chatter of the mind to go on a journey within and create from the soul. You will be using materials such as pencils, pen/ marker, oil pastels, chalk pastels and watercolor to create your own tools for meditation. There will be a time for reflection and sharing. We will be creating a group project that focus on combining energies to manifest intent. Each week is ended with a challenge to encourage your new path in creation. I invite you to take the time to come explore what your artwork says to you.
Class 2 November 24th- "Learning to read your lines and the meaning of your colors"
This week we will be creating our own "Line Libraries". Learn to understand your thoughts and emotions by the lines from your personal library. Learn the meaning of colors and learn to interpret what they mean in your artwork to you. There will be a time for reflection and sharing. We will be creating a group project that focus on combining energies to manifest intent. Each week is ended with a challenge to encourage your new path in creation. Maggie Tomaino currently teaches and offers private sessions in and around the Western US.
A natural healer, and psychic, having been blessed with the gifts of clairaudience, (clear hearing), clairsentience, (clear feeling) , and clairvoyance, (clear sight). Daddy & Me Hitting Clinic

Extra Innings, Bakersfield's newest baseball instruction facility, is holding their first "Daddy & Me Hitting Clinic". The clinic will be held over two days; Thursday, November 12 (6:30 - 7:30 pm), and Saturday, November 14 (1:00 - 2:00 pm). The first session will be for parents only, where they will be introduced to basic hitting fundamentals, common errors, and how to recognize and correct flaws. During the second session, the parent(s) accompanied by their child, will actually instruct their son or daughter in hitting techniques. Professional hitting instructors will be constantly moving around helping the parents with their one-on-one interaction.

This informative opportunity is open to children ages 7-13, with a maximum of only 10 children being accepted for registration

CALM Adventurers

Zoo visits are always a lot of fun, but beginning in October, monthly visits to the California Living Museum (CALM), located at 10500 Alfred Harrell Hwy., between Hart Park and Lake Ming, will include new adventures for children ages three to nine years.

“CALM Adventurers” (for 6-9 year olds) held the second Saturday of each month will take place Nov. 14, from 10 am-Noon. CALM Adventurers will meet and study the animals and plants that make California so special. Sometimes that will include going behind the scenes to see what regular visitors do not. In November, children will discover what an owl does to get his meals. The class is designed for children only. Cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. Parents and relatives can visit the zoo while class is in session at regular admission prices.

The Kern Secret Witness Program was formed as a public benefit, non-profit corporation in 1982. It is a collaborative effort between law enforcement and the community to involve the public in the criminal justice system by removing the fear of reprisal for assisting law enforcement. This is guaranteed by insuring that those who provide information will never be identified by the secret witness program.

The money raised by the RJ's Winter Golf Classic will supply the reward money available for those who provide information that leads to the arrest and conviction of suspected persons. This program is administered by the Secret Witness Board of Directors and all funding for the program comes from public donations.

The California Highway Patrol, Bakersfield Police Department and the Kern County Sheriff's Department support the Kern Secret Witness program and recognize it as a valuable tool to help solve crimes and apprehend wanted persons.

The Ladies Active 20-30 of Golden Empire #1038 is hosting their 1st Trivia Night at TL Maxwell's. Each team can have up to 4 members. There will be raffles available throughout the evening. Root on the Renegades with a Trip on the BC Rooter Bus!

Travel in style with the rowdiest bunch of football fans around and cheer on the Bakersfield College Renegades football team!

Bakersfield College’s Alumni Association will be sponsoring a bus trip to the final football game of the regular season against College of the Canyons on Saturday, November 14. Game time is 7 p.m., and the bus will leave from Bakersfield College’s Haley and Panorama parking lot at 4:30 p.m. and return immediately following the game.

Cost for the bus trip is $25 per person and does not include food or beverages. Riders may feel free to bring their own refreshments. Seats are available for 55 passengers, but are open on a first come, first served basis.

Rosedale Walmart will be hosting it's 6th Annual Fall Craft Show benefiting Children's Miracle Network on Saturday November 14th and Sunday November 15th. A wide variety of handmade crafts will be available for your Thanksgiving and Christmas shopping needs: Jewelry, yard art, woodworking, home decor, quilts, candles and many more unique items will be for sale. Local food vendors will be participating as well.

Hours are Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p m.. All booth fees will be donated to Children's Miracle Network. We encourage you to join us in supporting this worthy local cause.

SB 375 Public Workshop

The Central Valley Air Quality Global Warming and Air Quality Committee is hosting a community workshop on SB 375 on Saturday, November 14 at Arte Americas Museum in Fresno from 10am-2pm. Lunch will be provided. (Vea abajo para Espanol) A translator will be available on site. Childcare will be provided on site.

The focus of this workshop is to increase community awareness and understanding of the state’s efforts to implement SB 375 and develop sustainable communities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Our goal is to educate advocates and community leaders to engage on the policy as it moves forward through the local Metropolitan Planning Organizations and ultimately through adoption and implementation at the Air Resources Board (ARB).

The workshop is free and open to the public, anyone can attend. Please help us by spreading the word to anyone who may be interested in attending.

Our partners in this event include Fresno Metro Ministries, Coalition for Clean Air, National Parks Conservation Association, Center on Race, Poverty and the Environment, Fresno Madera Medical Society, Union of Concerned Scientists, The Verde Group, and other members of the Central Valley Air Quality (CVAQ) Coalition Global Warming Air Quality Committee.
