Tomas Weaver of Tehachapi caught this 13-pound Dorado fly-lining a sardine July 20 on his 1 1/2 day trip aboard the Ranger 85 out of San Diego.

Child's First Catch

We took our girls camping for the first time this past July 2008 to Kernville, CA and our oldest daughter caught her first fish with her aunt Sherry, which was a 7 pound Rainbow Trout.

Shark caught off Cayucos pier in July

Young Catfisherman

Logan King and Joel Turpin of Bakersfield had their hands full with a large catch of catfish from Lake Isabella on Friday, June 27, 2008. They caught over 20 catfish using shad and fishing from the shore on the west side of the lake. Most of the fish where caught after midnight and made for a great time for all by the campfire.

Veronica Zoraida Tapia plays "hooky" during her winter break and lands a five and a half pound rainbow trout at Buena Vista Lake on January 6, 2008. Veronica was using 6 lb. test line and silver sparkle green powerbait to lure her catch. It took her seven minutes to land the fish, and currently holds the family record.

Trout caught @ Buena Vista Lake

Sunday Dec 30th 2007, the Buena Vista Lake Park Ranger took this picture of Macayla Wells, 4 1/2 yrs old, who caught this trout that is 11 3/4 LBS and 27 inches long. She was fishing with her father David Wells of Taft,(Taft Bass Club's Angler of the Year), who happen to blank for the day. She picked out her own power bait (pink) at the local K-mart. The Park Ranger gave her a Jr. Ranger badge for landing the huge trout.

Buerna Vista lake 11.5 pound trout.

Went to the lake early Sunday morning, I caught my limit of trout from one and a half to two pounds, but my friend Marcos Sanchez caught this monster trout that weighed in at eleven and a half pounds. He was using rainbow power bait and a nightcrawler plus anise oil scent with a number 16 treble hook on 10 inch leader with 6 pound test line.

Darlene Johnson of Bakersfield caught an 11lb Rainbow Trout on a recent outing to Lake Evans (Buena Vista Recreation). Darlene is an excellent fisher consistently catching fish but this was her biggest one so far! The prize fish took sierra gold (yellow). It was netted by Ron Bowling and photo by Jerry Pierce.

Fishing with no bait

Fisherman Al Espericueta caught the biggest fish he has ever caught in his life, with no bait. He caught a trout, which weighed, 8 lbs. 6 oz. on New Year's Day at Buena Vista Lake.

He used a spinner to catch the fish with absolutely no bait. This requires good skill and great patience.

Jerry Pierce and Cameron Greco (7 yrs old) of Bakersfield, caught their limits of Rainbow Trout recently at The Park at River Walk lake (Bakersfield). They enticed the fish with power bait and salmon eggs... This is Cameron's 2nd time fishing, he is a quick learner and looks to be an excellent FISHERMAN!

Montana trout

My name is Jack Anderson, and I live here in Bakersfield (since 1961) and I am 46 years old. The attached picture is a stringer of Rainbow trout that I recently (10/10/07) caught from Carpenter Lake near the town of Eureka MT. The largest is a native Rainbow at 21 inches in length. I caught them trolling with a fly rod using a gold Wooley Booger. Best fishing day of my life! Maybe this will make the "Catch of the week". Thanks

Hi, we were fishing at Hedrick Pond — by Balch Park — and caught 19 rainbow trout. They were all 9 inches or bigger. This was on July 5, 2007. We used spinners and salmon eggs. Our hometown is Bakersfield. Our names are Julie, Abbie (8), Greg, & Emily (10).

Successful Fishing Trip

Meihua (pictured) and Morris Scharff (from Ridgecrest, CA) caught twelve fish on the Lower Kern River (just below the Dam) last Thursday, September 6th... The catch included four rainbow trout, four catfish and four bass. All of the fish were caught using night crawlers.

Buttonwillow farmer, Tim Thomson, caught, fought and released this 15 lb Pargo, in the Sea of Cortez, off Tortuga Island, near Santa Rosalia, Mex. on August 10 th. Aboard the "Poor K" skippered by Randy Parker was Tim's son Matt and Dustin Parker. Thomson yanked this scrappy Pargo off the bottom at about 60 feet with an iron jig on 20# p-line.

Christian Balasis, age 4 (with a little help from his Dad) caught his first fish - a 5 lb. catfish during a camping trip to Lake San Antonio in July. He caught his fish using mackrel for bait. The Balasis Family live in Bakersfield and love going camping and fishing when ever Dad can get some time off from work. Christian decided it would be better to let his fish go, so they released the fish unharmed back into the lake. (Whenever Christian sees the picture of his first fish - he refers to it as his 100 lb. catfish!!)

Gone Fishing

On a crisp summer morning, 7th of July, 2007. At around 7 o'clock in the morning I found myself all alone on Stark Weather Lake in the middle of Mammoth Lakes. Fly fishing with a G.Loomis 9 foot rod with 5 pound line using a bead head green woolly bugger with a sinking tip. After two or three casts i got a huge strike in the deepest part of the lake. This yielding a 4 pound 10 ounce rainbow trout. I shared this fish with a large family of friends and made the most delicious grilled trout tacos for 10. Tight Lines. Lois Ann Barnett

Fishing in Sitka, Alaska

This was a 42 lb King Salmon I caught while fishing in Sitka, Alaska August 17th 2006. It was the biggest King Salmon caught on the trip.

Gary F. Shaw, 56, of Bakersfield, caught this 215-pound Halibut on a recent trip to Alaska. The fish was caught in Cook's Inlet near Homer, Alaska, using scented Cod at approximately 275 feet. Shaw was with his father-in-law Bob (Pappaw) Shive, and his brothers-in-law, Bob Shive and Michael Shive.

52# White Sea Bass

I caught this personal best 52# white sea bass on a recent trip to Catalina Island on The Old #7 out of Pierpoint Landing in Long Beach. The fish was caught on a Seeker 665H rod, Avet JX reel with 65# spectra and 30# flourocarbon topshot. Live squid on a 4/0 ringed circle hook with a 1/2 oz. sliding "egg" sinker was the hot bait.
