Bakersfield is in desperate need of an animal police.

I'm sure you've all seen the Peck woman on the news and her hundreds of chihuahuas. And, I'm sure a few of you think she is a bad person. I do not. I think our BOS is trying to circumvent her rights and deny her the privelege of taking care of a pet overpopulation problem that they have ignored. But, regardless of how you think of her, she is doing something that very few would do... putting her neck on the line to care for the animals in this county that have been abused, mistreated, and neglected by careless and irresponsible citizens. However, I'm glad that this has made it into the headlines. Because, it addresses a problem that is often ignored in Kern County... our pet overpopulation.

On average, Kern County puts down over 1,000 dogs a month! That's more than Los Angeles County!!! KC population is about 600-650,000 people. Los Angeles County population is about 3-3 1/2 million.

Have you ever noticed how every neighborhood seems to have a stray dog... or even a pack of stray dogs? Have you ever noticed how every neighborhood has a large population of homeless cats? It is time for animal owners to be brought to justice in Kern County. And, since our Animal Control Service does not do their job, I think it might be time to address the need for an animal police in Kern County. Our ASPCA and Humane Society are over burdened. And, though there are people like Mrs. Peck or Joan Dunham, who transported dogs from our shelter to a bigger, less filled shelter in Seattle... it is not enough. Several cities and counties in America have an animal police... and, one is needed here.

Think about it. Our regular police force and sheriff's department has far too many officers than are necessary... why not use them to tackle this pet problem? We have illegal dog fighting operations here. (As you can tell with the large numbers of homeless pit bulls in our county.) As well as a lot of animal breeders. Breeders are the first thing that needs to go. Breeding is dangerous to the animal population of a place like Kern. When you see that thousands of dogs are being put to sleep monthly here, you have got to wonder why people continue to breed? I'm not saying all breeders are bad... But, I am saying that the majority of breeders in Kern are unlicensed and don't take into account the severe abuse and neglect that happens upon animals here. Pick up your paper, pop into craigslist... see how many people are on there every few months with a new litter. Even worse, the amount of people who don't understand the need to spay and nueter.

We need to implement a police force for animal crimes only... since they quite obviously occur in large numbers. HUMAN BEINGS domesticated dogs and cats. They never asked us to be domesticated. It is, therefore, our job to care for them. Implement an animal police NOW.

(Note : Never donate to PETA. They put to death more animals than they save every year... And, they spend the money given to them to save those animals on celebrity endorsements... and a gorilla vein for their founder. Which she has, unashamed, in her forearm. Never donate to ALF, either. They bomb the homes of humans and think it is a justified way of saving an animal.

Pit bulls strike again.

It seems like dejavu and that I just wrote about this happening not too long ago -- well maybe it was almost 2 years to be exact. Anyway it appears that killer dogs are striking our neighborhood again. The victims are poor innocent little pets, who certainly did not ask for this. This time it was a beautiful Sharpay dog who was very elderly in dog years -- 15-years-old. The owner, who I did not know very well came to our home today, crying her eyes out and barely able to tell her sad story. Yes her long-time pet, who she was sure would die from old age was savagely mauled this morning by these killer dogs. The vets do not give him much chance of making a recovery and have so advised the owner. My husband offered to fix her fence, where the dogs broke through. She did call Animal Control and as always they were of absolutely no help and refused to take the killer dogs away. NO, it would be better to leave them in our neighborhood as they still had more dogs to kill around here!!! No that is not what they said, but they certainly were not at all sympathetic and scolded the woman, saying that she should fortify her fence with metal wiring so this would not happen again. Oh no it certainly was not the owner of the pit bull's fault and as I said before, the dogs were never removed from their home.

Thus the saga of Animal Control and their lack of doing anything to remedy the situation ever. By the way last time we called them, they were much too busy to come to our home. My husband happened to notice them eating lunch at park, which turned out to be a 2-hour lunch.

Again, we plead with City Council to do something about these killer dogs, but don't hold your breath waiting, according to Animal Control, they have not killed enough of our pets.

Pit Bull Attack

This is another vicious attack by not one but 3 Pit Bulls!

The dogs may have been in their yard behind a fence but with the strength and knowing the way that the bread attacks it seems that you shouldn't be able to have 2 or more in a single yard. Such as one in the front and one in the back. That way if attacked you might be able to defend your self to where you could get out of the area.

I hope that Steven Herrera recovers quickly and fully.
