About Maggie:

Maggie Tomaino currently teaches and offers private sessions in and around the Western US.
A natural healer, and psychic, having been blessed with the gifts of clairaudience, (clear hearing), clairsentience, (clear feeling) , and clairvoyance, (clear sight). She has been working with her gifts since childhood. Wiccan Wednesday-Is a class for any one who is a beginner or just interested in learning about the Wiccan Path. We will be covering every thing from history, philosophy, and the ethics of cultural appropriation, to meditation, energy, types of magical practice, tips, and tools.

A little about Derek:

Hail and welcome! I am Derek Wrigley, the newest healer at the Enchanted Cottage. My spiritual path is that of Shamanic Wicca.
I moved to Bakersfield in October of '07 to start a new life with the most wonderfully magical woman a man could ever hope to share life with. I was raised in the small lumber town of Roseburg Oregon. I spent much of my youth outdoors and the wilderness is my second home. I took my first class in core shamanism with Christina Pratt way back when I was in Junior High. It was also at that time I was introduced to Taoism. By the time I graduated from high school I had studied with a Taoist Mystic and philosopher Bill Horden author of "The Tao of Cool", had a 2nd degree in Reiki, spoke two foreign languages and had a 2nd degree black belt in Tang Soo Do. By the time I was 23 I was married and nationally certified as a Licensed Massage Therapist in Oregon. I had a very successful practice. Ten years, two wonderful kids, and a divorce (thank the goddess) later, I moved here. Needing to repair spiritually the damage done by my marrige, I found wicca. I have been on the wiccan path for several years now. I am currently attending B.C. and working toward a Nursing Degree.

The word chakra is Sanskrit for wheel. Chakras are energy centers in our body said to be shaped like a wheel. It is our quest in this seven part class is to study the seven main Chakras beginning with the Root Chakra. Why is this important? If we are in balance we can lead much healthier lives, be more confident, be more creative, and just be in balance with the Universe. And yes, that is not easy. But you can only begin with the first step. Wisdom comes from doing things over and over again, perhaps in subtle different ways.

These classes will be taught through meditation, exercises and yes, homework. Any kind of learning requires some type of effort but it is fun and you might just enlightened.

Here is a little more about our first class;

The root chakra is sometimes called the first chakra, because it is the base for all other chakras. It sits at the bottom of the spine, between the perineum and the anus, supporting the sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, forehead/third eye and crown chakras.
The muladhara chakra helps people connect to the Earth, and no other chakra is used to draw as much Earth energy as the root chakra. The central themes of the root chakra are trust, security and survival. Root chakra development begins in the ninth month of pregnancy, and continues through the first year of life, connecting the muladhara with the will to live, the root of all life.
Many symbols and ideas associated with the first chakra are connected to the idea of strength and life. The word muladhara translates into "support" and "root," while the chakra's symbol is a square, an image of durability.
The color associated with the root chakra is red, which relates to blood, passion and energy, essential components for a zealous life.

The following seven primary chakras are what we will be studying in the following order:
1.    Muladhara (Base or Root Chakra (last bone in spinal cord *coccyx*)
2.    Swadhisthana Sacral Chakra (ovaries/prostate)
3.    Manipura Solar Plexus Chakra (navel area)
4.    Anahata (Heart Chakra (heart area)
5.    Vishuddha (Throat Chakra (throat and neck area)
6.    Ajna (Brow or Third Eye Chakra (pineal gland or third eye)
7.    Sahasrara (Crown Chakra (Top of the head; 'Soft spot' of a newborn)

Classes are $30 each/you can pay for all seven classes at once for $175 (a savings of $35) or each class individually. Class time will be from 7:00 p.m. to
9:00 p.m., November 20, 2009.

49TH Annual Free Thanksgiving Day Feast

The Glorious Faith Worhship Center, located at 400 Watts Street, will host their annual Thanksgiving Day feast on Thanksgiving morning . This feast began 49 years with the late Pastor T.D. Johnson and his wife the late Missionary Dorthy Johnson with only a pot of Chili Beans. They would bring dishes from their own homes in order to feed those in need on Thanksgiving. Now with the full tradional Thanksving menu(Turkey, Stuffing,mashed potatoes, vegetables, Dinner roll, cake and pie, the tradition has been carried by the Johnson's son Pastor David Johnson and his wife Missionary Sammie Johnson along with the congregation of the church. Well a Bakersfield church, the Bridge Bible Church , is doing just that, they are selling their "treasures" that they are pruning in their life to make more room for God. This could be their favorite golf clubs, to their prized car, to their big screen TV.

You see their Pastor, Jeff Gowling, has challenged them to be pruned.

In the Bible, John 15, Jesus illustrates through the parable of the Vine, that He prunes every branch that produces fruit, so it can be more fruitful. You can ask any vineyard owner, it is necessary to prune branches that are bearing fruit in order to bring in more fruit.

The whole idea is countercultural. Giving away those things that we treasure? We tend to hoard our treasures, not give them away. It is in the giving away the thing that we treasure, that frees us to find true treasures, the ones that last for eternity.
