Daddy & Me Hitting Clinic

Extra Innings, Bakersfield's newest baseball instruction facility, is holding their first "Daddy & Me Hitting Clinic". The clinic will be held over two days; Thursday, November 12 (6:30 - 7:30 pm), and Saturday, November 14 (1:00 - 2:00 pm). The first session will be for parents only, where they will be introduced to basic hitting fundamentals, common errors, and how to recognize and correct flaws. During the second session, the parent(s) accompanied by their child, will actually instruct their son or daughter in hitting techniques. Professional hitting instructors will be constantly moving around helping the parents with their one-on-one interaction.

This informative opportunity is open to children ages 7-13, with a maximum of only 10 children being accepted for registration

Bakersfield College’s Alumni Association will be sponsoring a bus trip to the final football game of the regular season against College of the Canyons on Saturday, November 14. Game time is 7 p.m., and the bus will leave from Bakersfield College’s Haley and Panorama parking lot at 4:30 p.m. and return immediately following the game.

Cost for the bus trip is $25 per person and does not include food or beverages. Riders may feel free to bring their own refreshments. Seats are available for 55 passengers, but are open on a first come, first served basis.

Bakersfield College is inviting the community to come celebrate the grand opening of our new Dean and Adah Gay Sports Complex with free admission to the Bakersfield College softball game at 7 p.m. and the Bakersfield College baseball game at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 4.

Special first pitch ceremonies will precede each game. The community is invited to come attend the ribbon-cutting and stay to enjoy some fast paced action on the fields.

Bakersfield College will be holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly completed Dean and Adah Gay Sports Complex on Thursday, February 4 at 5:30 p.m., prior to concurrent baseball and softball games at 7 and 7:30 p.m.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony with City of Bakersfield Mayor Harvey Hall will be held in the main entrance plaza of the Dean and Adah Gay Sports Complex at the corner of Haley Street and University Avenue in northeast Bakersfield.

Among the changes within the Dean and Adah Gay Sports Complex was the complete renovation of the fields for Bakersfield College baseball and softball, as well as the addition of disabled access routes. Fan seating, press boxes and dugouts were also renovated.

The baseball and softball teams are also looking for program alumni to attend and be part of the ceremonies. Classes open for most makes and models of American Powered Vehicles. Due to limited space, entries limited to the first 250 registrations received. National Jet Boat Association Boat Races

The National Jet Boat Association (NJBA) comes to Lake Ming again on May 22 and 23 with thrilling speed boat races. Boats compete on the 1/4 mile "liquid" track delivering hair raising passes at speeds between 100 and 200 MPH. Qualifying passes occur on Saturday beginning at 8:30a.m. and excite spectators through 5p.m. Eliminations take place on Sunday beginning at 8:00a.m. until the fastest boats have earned bragging rights and put in wins in approximately 15 classifications of racing. Crusin' T's sells colorful event t-shirts and Rex's Nitro Burgers provides a delicious variety of made-to-order gourmet fast food. Entry is $12 on Saturday, $15 on Sunday or $20 for a two day pass. H.A.L.T. Rescue's 1st Annual Helping Animals Live Tomorrow 5k Fun Run/Walk

Advance Beverage Co. presents H.A.L.T. Rescue's First Annual Helping Animals Live Tomorrow 5K Fun Run/Walk. The race will take place at Yokuts Park in Bakersfield, California. Race packet pick up and late registration is from 6-7:30 am and the race begins at 8:00am. This is a dog-friendly race, so bring your furry, four legged friend. There will be plenty of water to keep you and your dog hydrated. After the race, lunch will be served. Also, results and awards will be announced for top three finishers in each age catagory for male and female. To close off the event, there will be a raffle with great prizes. Bring a bag of dog food and get a free ticket for the raffle drawing! All participants recieve a t-shirt, goody bag and lunch. Deadline for online registration is May 20! Race day registration is $25 (Race day registers are not guaranteed a tshirt or goodie bag)

9th Annual Sporting Clays Tournament

Bakersfield Breakfast Lions is hosting its 9th Annual Sporting Clays Tournament at the Kern County Gun Club on June 5, 2010 from 8:00 am until noon. Check in at 7:30 am. Entry fee includes steak lunch and refreshments. Lots of auction and raffle items, including firearms and exotic fishing trips. Special sponsor packages are available. Proceeds go to benefit local causes and needs.
