Ruth King was once so addicted to drugs that they almost robbed her of her future. “It was devastating. They took away my dreams,” she said. The blues artist used her music to pull herself out of the depths of addiction and now wants to share her music with the world. On Wednesday, July 15, she will get that opportunity. Ruth King and her band are about to be broadcast to 29 million viewers on The Daily Buzz television show. The syndicated news show is a CW affiliate that reaches more than half the country through its 160 markets. Long loved for her acoustic blues sound and intensely soulful songs, King is a skilled vocalist and guitarist, who has gained an avid following through her live performances at the House of Blues / Downtown Disney in Orlando, college concert tours, nightclub venues and music festivals across the nation. She will perform two songs from her upcoming CD. After education budgets were slashed across the nation, King raised thousands of dollars this year to benefit various scholarship and children’s education funds As a performer, King brings a wealth of expertise to her music. A product of two jazz musicians and a blues musician, she was born in Virginia, lived in Plattsburgh, NY, and sang her way to a scholarship at Florida State University. Her skill with blues and jazz has enabled her to make her living and gather a loyal following for decades. King has released three CDs to her name: If By Now, Amazed and Attache. Each CD represents a different style in her evolution as a musician. Her soon to be released CD contains King’s most heartfelt music yet, with songs such as Is it Love and Shadow. The CD contains a mixture of acoustic blues, R&B and jazz songs with sharp, soulful and funky vocals, and original guitar work by Ruth King and her four band members. Ruth King has headlined for various music legends including the Little River Band, the Rippingtons and Kenny Rankin. King’s early career established her as a songwriter and music publisher. On the multinational scene, her music, published through His Promise Music (BMI), has reached Europe, Asia, the Netherlands, Canada, and the U.S.A.
