As an Advocate for the Disabled population of Kern County/Global, I would like to express the importance of rights for the disabled. The ADA has assisted with issues for quite sometime. Although, work is still required and needed and legislatures and bills proposed and won. Our disabled people are still neglected, discriminated and treated unfair.

Employment is low for this population and cuts to benefits increasing. It just doesn't make sense. If you think their benefits should be cut, it should be more reason to hire. This is a loyal population for employment. Business's realizing the incentives given for hiring a disabled person, are hiring. One must realize, a disability may limit certain areas, but other abilities are greatly enhanced.

Even if a disabled person must work from home, this can produce monies drastically. Hire a disabled person. Look into the incentives for hiring this population. Create opportunities instead of taking their independence. Consult disabled agencies in your area for information. Our economy is hurting. Let's pull together and stand up and fight with all of our might. Our world is changing.

Together, we can face and fight the challenges one at a time. October is Disability month, if you know someone who is disabled, encourage them, don't discriminate. Make a stand, fight for employment, independence, accommodations, public access, let's make a difference
