The Bakersfield City School District Trustees gave an outstanding performance tonight worthy of an academy award.
An air of anxious anticipation hung in the air of the boardroom as each trustee acted as if they were actually listening to the speeches being given by five of the six candidates.
When the results of the first vote were announced, the crowd gasped in amazement - no candidate had received a majority! DeWalt for Vereen (because he's a Republican and she called him "Don"); Tate for Vereen (Never, ever vote against a fellow Kiwani); Van Horne for Bryan (Look good vote); and Tafoya for Haynes (who knows why?).
On the second vote, it was all Vereen. The act was over and Superintendent Lingo helped Mr. Vereen read the oath of office.
Mr. Vereen stated that he is a minister. That's appropriate because God is going to have to help the children of the BCSD because this board isn't going to.
