The California Off Road Vehicle Association (CORVA) held its Family Fun Day and Convention in
The event was attended by an estimated 350 off roaders who came to the area to camp in the desert and ride off-highway vehicles with friends and family. There were campfires on Friday and Saturday nights to visit with old off road buddies and to meet new ones.
CORVA president Ed Waldheim said, “We usually have our annual convention alternating each year in a city in northern or southern
The day’s events included guided trail rides, a barrel race, and a four-wheel-drive mud pit obstacle course. Dust control was provided by a water truck, compliments of Friends of El Mirage.
A Saturday night barbeque and fund raising raffle was held with great prizes from the off-road industry, like wheels, riding gear, a vehicle winch, and much more. Nominations were also made on Saturday for the annual CORVA awards like “Off Roader of the Year” and various Conservation and Club awards. Recipients of those awards will be mentioned in CORVA’s newsletter.
The nearby Cal City MX track was open for CORVA participants with a regular motocross track and a separate “Pee Wee” track for younger riders. The day’s events were open to motorcycles, quads, 4x4s, sand rails, and go carts.
The weather held out for the event with highs in the mid 70s and no wind for a change. It made for a beautiful series of desert sunrises and sunsets.
The next CORVA event is going to be on Saturday and Sunday, April 28 and 29, 2007. It’s the 11th Annual Moose Anderson Days as part of the Great American Cleanup. Go to www.jawbone.org for the Friends of Jawbone website and information on this fun family weekend where we work on the areas we enjoy. Or call 760-373-1146 for more info.
The event begins at Jawbone Station, which is approximately 19 miles north of Mojave on Highway 14. You must pre-register by April 15 to get a free event T-shirt and barbeque after the cleanup.
This is always a fun event and a great way for kids to participate in community service. To join CORVA, go to www.corva.org . We’ll hope to see you at one of these family-oriented off roading events.
