On Tuesday, May 15th Sara is looking to hit well, maybe even another grand slam to help bring BCHS a victory in the 1st round of CIF playoffs. She started the season off with a grand slam in a pre-league game as well as one hit a few weeks ago to help BCHS secure playoffs position. Sara is a 4 year varsity catcher who loves the game! She has been awarded “All League” for the last 3 years, “Honorable Mention – All City” as a freshman catcher, as well as receipt ant of California State Legislative Award.
Her “Grand Slam” however, consists of more than high school softball. She has also played Varsity Tennis at BCHS for 4 years. This fall, BCHS won the Division V Valley Women’s Tennis Championship. She proudly wears the Championship Ring given to her by Coach Frank Thiessen as the number 2 single player for the team. She has also played year-round “travel softball” since she was twelve. Playing in several national softball tourneys, Sara has given up weekends, holiday and summers to travel all over California, as well as to Nevada, Idaho, Illinois, Georgia, and Florida to play competitive softball.
She has been very active in school government/leadership. Starting with her freshman year and through her senior year she has been elected by the student body for positions such as: Student Body Board of Athletes, Student Body Board of Finance, Freshman and Senior Class Representative. She has attended several local high school leadership seminars, as well as a two week National high school leadership workshop in Washington, D. C.
Sara has also been very active in the social committee of BCHS, as part of the 1st incoming class of the new campus; she was very active with planning of all school social activities such as winter formals, proms, school retreats, and 2 European trips. She also help establish BCHS community service clubs; Key Club, Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity. This is addition to (very) active regular teenage social agenda.
Most importantly, however, are her academic accomplishments! She has taken every Advanced Placement/Honors Class available, and has a cumulative GPA of over 4.40. She was accepted at several well known colleges (UCSB, UCSD, Berkeley, Loyola Marymount and Columbia). She has chosen to attend University of Chicago where she will be majoring in International Economics, while also continuing to play softball as a collegiate catcher!
Sara may be hoping to hit a grand slam in the upcoming CIF Championships. Looks like she already has!
Sara has also set up an annual scholarship award ($1,000) for women scholar athletes at BCHS. This will be her 3rd year of selecting candidates and has is looking forward to working with the senior counselor in the future years.
