                        Tracy Sherwood Tutoring

My name is Rebeka and I am the proud mother of two beautiful children. My oldest, Logan is 7 years old and will be starting second grade in August. I give a big thanks to Tracy for this because without her patience and guidance my daughter would be facing the first grade again.

She couldn't read. She barely slid through kindergarten. I had to put her through summer school in order to get her into the first grade.  Her problem isn't intellegence. She's very bright and creative. She couldn't sit still. not for five minutes. She had to move around and constantly interact with anyone around her. Because of this, she was missing some vital basics.

To add to the problem, I was having trouble communicating with her. If she couldn't get something right the first time, I would get frustrated. It was a terrible battle that no matter what the circumstances, neither one of us could win. I went to the school, determined to get somewhere with them because I felt that they needed to do more. They put her in an after school tutoring program 3 days a week for an hour with about a hundred other students falling behind for a hundred other reasons. The continued lack of personalized attention made for little progress. She was referred to a different program that turned out to be alot of fun and no work or study. They would help her with her homework and then they would move on to games and plays and things she has no trouble acceling at. I pulled her out after about three weeks and started calling tutors. I called Sylvan but they told me that they couldn't offer a guaranteed length of time for results. I figuered I would end up spending thousands of dollars (I didn't have) to get very little if any progress. They couldn't even promise me that they could do one on one with her. Then I found Tracy. We talked for almost an hour.

I decided to take Logan in for an assessment which turned to be the most educational 2 hours of my life. Logan had an academic breakthrough within the first 30 minutes. Tracy made everything a game. Logan was having trouble sitting still so Tracy stood her up and played games with her. Through it all Logan was dissecting sounds and spelling out words that she had previously struggled with. I knew Tracy was it.

Logan got an 8 week booster with Tracy. Every week we both learned something new. Tracy had explained to me that my impatience and frustration stemmed from not knowing what to do. She told me that once I learned what to do my frustration levels would go down instantly. She was right. Part of the booster involves the parents participation. She wanted me to be able to participate in every technique and use them at home daily. I did, and there was vast improvement overnight between me and my daughter.

Not only is my daughter a better reader, but she has the skills to help herself learn to do better in everything. I have more patience then I ever thought possible and she is going to skate right into second grade without a problem. I just wish I had called sooner. It was the best choice I could ever make for my daughter and I strongly recommend her to everyone. She goes beyond tutoring children who struggle with reading. She helps children who have aspergers, autism, ADD, ADHD, you name it, she can help. Adults as well.
