My father, Richard Liu, is an artist in every sense of the word.  He sees the world through the eyes of someone who just wants to make it better.  He's always reminding me to stop and appreciate the beauty of nature.  He also tells me, a multitasking aficionado, that if I do too many things at once, I'm not doing anything well.  However, a lesson that always sticks out in my mind is one involving some quarters, a newspaper, and some humble pie.

When my sister and I were about six or seven, our mom, Mary, gave us a quarter and told us to pick up a newspaper from the nearby vending machine for our father.  Thinking we were so smart, my sister and I inserted the quarter, took out two copies of the L.A. Times, and closed the door.  When my Dad found out what we did, he made us put another quarter in the slot and open and shut the vending machine door.  We thought it was a waste of money.  But that day, Dad showed us that even a gesture as small as paying for what you take, can give you the kind of integrity that you'll carry for a lifetime.  Happy Father's Day, Daddy.  We love you and appreciate all your life lessons.

Love,

Your kids Sarah, Nina, and Daniel
Your sons-in-law, Chris and Ben
and your Grandkids Aspen, Sydney, Paris, Ashley, and a baby boy on the way
