The Woman’s Club of Bakersfield held its 111th Installation Ceremony and Luncheon on May 21, 2007.  Incoming President Claire J. Smeed was honored by California Federation of Women’s Clubs President Tammy Guensler, guest speaker, who performed the Installation Ceremony.  Members and guests were treated to a Cordon bleu luncheon catered by Hodel’s and a program presented by First Chair Flautist, Nancy Ayala and Laura Porter, Harpist of the Bakersfield Symphony.  For all of those who helped make this installation luncheon so special, we thank you!

Mrs. Smeed has been an important part of the Woman’s Club for many years. She ran an all-woman automotive re-distribution service that received a lot of attention.  It was written up in Automotive News, The Wall Street Journal and The Bakersfield Californian.  Mrs. Smeed was one of the women mentioned in the book Boss Lady.  She continues to work with her husband in their real estate and land management business.  She also flies her own plane. President Claire Smeed’s theme is “Empowering Women to Serve our Club and our Community." Claire says “Come fly with me!”  Ladies interested in joining us, please call 325-7889.  We are located at 2030 Eighteenth Street.
