Today, my two sons and I visited the Baker Library to hear Officer Kelly's presentation on safety.   The presentation was informative and my boys had a wonderful time.  Officer Kelly is excellent at  teaching children about strangers, gun safety, how police officers help the community, and all about their uniforms, yet without frightening the children.

Unfortunately, not many children were there to hear the message.  There was only one other boy in attendance during the presentation and then toward the end 3 other children slipped in.

The Beale Library gets large turnouts for their summer programs, but many of us forget about the smaller branches.  I could tell that the head librarian, Scott, worked hard to make the event successful...but a little library in a bad area of town doesn't seem to pull people in.  Today was a hot day, but we were able to get out of the house and stay cool during a fun and free presentation.

Next Friday at 3:00, the Bakersfield Police K9 unit will be doing a presentation.  In fact, every Friday in July at 3:00, there is a police themed event at the Baker Library.
