'Evan Almighty' appears to make Noah, the Flood, God and the Bible look foolish – but who's the fool?
The new movie, Evan Almighty, ridicules the Biblical account of Noah and the ark. We have to realize that if the account is true, then this movie is also dishonoring God and calling him a liar.
People have a right to believe as they like including the right to disbelieve the Bible and supporting facts. But before we do so we need to first look at the facts and then make a decision based on intelligent choice and not blind belief or misinformation.
Was there an ark? And if so, how could it possibly have held all those animals?
These are questions that have been asked by many. Some have concluded the whole idea to be ridiculous or impossible but one thing cannot be denied: There was an earth-wide flood as scientists and archaeologists agree. Therefore, if there are animals (and humans) living today some must have been preserved through the flood in order to reproduce.
What do the facts show?
How Large Was The Ark?
According to the Genesis account at Genesis chapter 6, verse 15 the ark was 300 cubits long (437' 6"long) It was 50 cubits wide (72' 11") and 30 cubits high (43' 9"high). A cubit measure is estimated to be from 17.5 to 24 inches long.
If we take the lower figure of 17.5 we have a floating giant approximately the length of 3 football fields. If we allow 100,000 cubit feet of space for the deck floors there still remain almost 1,300,000 cubit feet. This is equal to the carrying capacity of 10 freight trains, each train consisting of about 48 stock cars.
It has only been in recent years that ships have been built larger than the ark.
Could All Those Animals Have Fit Into The ark?
Would it have been necessary for every animal that we are familiar with today to have been in the ark? No.
For example, there are many species in the cat family such as tigers, panthers, leopards and even the common house cat. Therefore, just one pair from the cat family was all that was necessary to bring on the ark. From that one pair comes all the varieties we see today.
The same holds true for the rest of the animals, vegetation and humans. (Acts 17 verse 26)
Did not the Creator put into every living thing the capacity to produce a variety within its own kind? The Bible account as well as science and human observation show that to be the case.
(Genesis 1 verses 11, 24,25).
Another point to keep in mind is that of the 3,000 species of land mammals classified by zoologists (at the time of this writing - as more have been and are being discovered all the time) only 300 or thereabouts are larger than a horse, whereas some 2,200 are no larger than a rabbit.
Marine mammals such as whales and dolphins and other sea life would have remained outside the Ark in their natural habitat.
When you take these points into consideration we realize that Noah had relatively few large animals to care for.
The account of a world-wide flood that took place at the time the Bible states it did is backed by historical and achaeological evidence. The fact that it would be ridiculed by many at Noah's time and in our time is shown in 2 Peter 3 verses 3 thru 9.

One believes what one chooses to believe but it should be based on some kind of logic, evidence or fact. It is clear you did not thoroughly read how 'all ' those animals were able to be in the ark.If you read it again it will partly answer your comment. As to the animal species living within 'walking distance' to the ark, they didn't need to. If you are familiar with the Genesis account you would know that the animals at that time were in subjection to humankind which meant they were not in fear of them. They would have followed Noah to the ark when it was time. it would not have been a problem for Noah to 'gather' those creatures who needed to be on the ark and which would exclude the ones mentioned in the article I originally sent.
I am very familiar with the Epic of Gilgamesh as well as Aztec, Norse and other 'mythological legends'
Regardless of whether one chooses to believe the Bible account or not it is clear that Gilgamesh, described as part man, part god with a violent and lustful personality is based on an unreal and legendary creature of which no human has ever seen or will.
But there is one thing of interest. All of these legends have a similar account running through them: A world-wide flood. The Epic of Gilgamesh mentions a flood, a ship and survivors.
Aztec mythology tells of an ancient world inhabited by giants and of a great deluge.
Norse legend describes a race of giants and a wise man named Bergelmir who constructed a large boat and saved himself and his wife.
All of these legends simply corroborate the Bible's testimony that all humans have descended from the survivors of a deluge that destroyed an ancient wicked world.(If that were not so we would not be here today as we are all descendents of those flood survivors, Noah and his family)
It is clear that man has twisted the word of God retaining some truth and making up the rest. The facts, not mythology, speak for themselves. And an honest study of the Bible will prove it never-and I repeat never- contradicts itself it is men that contradict it. Any seeming 'contradictions' are cleared up immediatly by supporting scriptures. One can not make a fair assessment unless they have actually done that.
