Awarding money to nonprofits who meet the focus area of the Junior League of Bakersfield (JLB) is the finest of the Junior League’s endeavors to make a difference and improve the community.
On September 11, 2007, eight nonprofits were awarded funds raised by the Wine Fest and Fiesta del Sol fundraisers. These organizations were selected for their commitment to improving the lives of women and children in Bakersfield, a criteria for recipients.
Receiving funds were the Arthritis Association Adaptive Aquatics Center: $3,000, Court Appointed Special Advocates, CASA of Kern County: $2,000; Bakersfield Police Activities League, (BPAL) Girls Social Development Program: $1,600; Teen Court Program: $2,000; Southwest Nursery School: $3,000; and Bakersfield Community House: $2,000. Project grant recipients are the Lori Brock Museum: $6,300; and the Bethany Homeless Shelter: $5,000.
Funding is awarded in two categories: Enabling funds are for a one-year grant that may include purchase of equipment. Project grants can be a collaboration with another nonprofit that will include volunteer service by Junior League members. It is easier than ever for a nonprofit to obtain information and fill out an application. Simply go to the JLB website, www.juniorleagueofbakersfield.org and read all about it. Applications are in a PDF and can be completed online. Application deadline for the 2008 year is December 3, 2007.
This is how fundraising dollars are delivered back into the community where Junior League makes a difference.
