The 4-H Youth Development Program is in every county in
There are about 1100 kids in the traditional 4-H program which involves 42
clubs (chapters are FFA) throughout the county. The ages run 5 - 19 with the
5 - 8 year olds being Cloverbud members. They can not compete. The regular
4-H members are 9 - 19 years of age.
4-H is a place where young people are given many opportunities to build confidence, learn responsibility, and develop skills that will last them a lifetime. It’s a place where youth make friends and share interests, ranging from building rockets to raising rabbits. It’s a place where youth work together to make a positive difference in their club, their community, their country, and their world.
The most popular projects in Kern County, with project members between 100 - 400 per category, are: leadership, community pride, shooting sports, photography, creative arts & crafts, food preservation, foods & nutrition, clothing, rocketry, poultry, swine, sheep, rabbits, and horse. The key events put on by the 4-H Council (Fair is an activity we participate in but do not run) are 4-H Field Day, 4-H Presentation Day, 4-H Fashion Revue, Winter Camp, and 4-H Home Economics Field Day.
Get involved in the 4-H community and make a lasting difference! Volunteers are needed as project leaders for all those projects mentioned above and more. To learn more about 4-H and what it has to offer young people, call (661) 868-6200 or visit our web site at: http://cekern.ucdavis.edu/Y...
