Christmas is my favorite time of year. One just needs to walk into my front door to see that. It begins the minute Thanksgiving is over. The "Law" of the Wilson house is that Thanksgiving cannot be slighted with anything Christmas before Thanksgiving is celebrated, but once it is completed and we are done with "Day after Thanksgiving shopping" ... Christmas begins!! My home is decorated as well as any Better Homes and Garden magazine, and the kids will let me know if I have forgotten to put up one single item. But our favorite night of all, outside of Christmas, is the first Saturday evening in December. That evening the kids all gather together with their families and children at my home for the decorating of "The Tree". It has changed over the years in the style from hand painted children's crafts, to specialty Hallmark ornaments, but each person has their favorite ornament that has to go on the tree each year. The tree became known as the memory tree rather than the Christmas tree over the years. As my husband sits at the piano playing Christmas Carols, we sing, drink egg nog and eat lemon cookies and talk about all the Christmas memories and good times from past years. My husband's 95 year old grandmother always comes each year and shared the time with us, always saying it is the prettiest tree she had ever seen. Last year she came for the last time and we enjoyed her once again till she went to share that memory with the Lord early in February. This year, we will add that joyous memory to our evening of how she loved sharing the time with us around our Memory Tree. Merry Christmas.
