In my humble opinion Dr. Hemmal Kothary is one of if not the best Family Practitioner in Bakersfield. My experience started a little over 7 years ago when Dr. Kothary was a 4Th year resident at Kern Medical Center and my son was at the time less than 2 weeks old. My son was prone to sudden boughts of screaming not just crying but screaming, excessive gassiness and diaper rashes. Just before he was 2weeks old I discovered a large amount of blood in his diaper, in a panic I rushed him to the family practice clinic, then located on the KMC campus. I was told by the reception staff that they were not longer seeing "walkin's" that day and I would have to take my two week old over to the ER if I wanted him treated that day, or I could bring him back the following day, now as you can imagine this highly upset me. Epically considering I was a 22 year old young lady, now single mom scared and confused. Dr. Kothary who had been assigned my son's doctor after his birth and had already been acquainted with our family happened to walk by, he saw that I was in extreme distress and asked what was going on. I told him about how my baby had been screaming constantly since I had changed his formula to soy due to excessive gas and now he had a severe diaper rash that had come on over night and then I showed him the diaper with all the blood in it. Dr. Kothary ordered and x-ray and some blood tests when the results came back he told me he suspected that my son had an allergy not only to soy but also to cow milk proteins, but he said he was not a pediatrician and wanted his diagnosis confirmed by a staff attending pediatrician. It was confirmed my son was then switched to Nutramigen, this is a non-cow milk based non-soy based pre-digested protein based formula that is easy for babies tummies to digest, my son spent 3 days in the hospital to make sure that the bleeding had stopped and has been happy and healthy since. Now this experience could have been allot worse but thanks to Dr. Kothary's caring attention this already horrible experience was not made worse. I lost touch with Dr. Kothary after he finished up his residency, I believed that he had moved away. Two years ago I was delighted to find his name in my insurance book of approved providers, unsure if it was him I made an appointment and when we got there to my supreme excitement we found this Dr. Kothary to be one and the same as the resident who had taken such good care of my son. Dr. Kothary now treats my entire family, he has made him self available at 3am even if just to say give her Tylenol and be at my office at 730am (he came in early so he could fit her into his schedule) because my daughter is prone to sinus infections that cause her to have extremely high temperatures. Whatever the ailment or the situation Dr. Kothary is prepared knowledgeable, and caring, he has NEVER let my family down in a crisis we are very thankful for his presence here in Bakersfield.

If only I could agree with you. He has made life-changing decisions about my medical condition without even speaking to me to my face; he's been sending messages and refusing treatment through my main GP. He may be good with general medicine, but I can only assume that he is one of many, MANY "old-fashioned" doctors.
