Today was the opening of “Big Popy’s Deli”. It is a nice dinner-esque deli that has a hint of coffee/tea house feel. I love all the things on the wall. There is even a replica of the leg lamp from A Christmas Story, and the tables are authentic looking fifties kitchen tables with matching chairs. They remind me of my grandmothers’ kitchen.
The service was great. The cream of asparagus soup was good. My husband ordered the tuna sandwich, of which I took a bite — it was tasty. My daughter ordered the chicken noodle soup, she loved it. I can’t wait to have more time to stop in and sample more of their food.
They make vegetarian sandwiches as well as hot and cold sandwiches (with meat) and at about $7.00- $7.50 a sandwich is not too bad, I want to try their pastrami. They have hot and cold tea, coffee, fountain and bottled soda, $1.75-$2.50, freak’n sweet they have bubble up. I haven’t had bubble up since I was a kid.
Big Popy’s Deli also sells cakes, salads, soups, chips, cookies and tea loose by the ounce. It looks like a real nice place to have lunch and glimpse back in time. I can’t wait to go back.
