The KernCorps AmeriCorps Program, operated by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools, has been awarded a $12,000 grant to design and implement outreach activities aimed at educating communities about the importance of saving energy. “Flex Your Power” is a comprehensive marketing and outreach campaign targeted to rural communities. Managed by Sacramento-based Runyon Saltzman & Einhorn, Inc., the program is funded by California utility ratepayers and administered by the California Investor Owned Utilities under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission.
KernCorps Program Manager Jeff Coomber said, “We are very pleased to have been selected to participate in the Flex Your Power outreach campaign. All of us are working together to achieve a common goal — protecting the environment for future generations.”
Coomber said KernCorps will be engaging communities to be more energy efficient almost immediately with members staffing Flex Your Power information booths during Cinco de Mayo celebrations at Mannel Park in Shafter on May 3 and at St. Augustine’s Church in Lamont on May 4. KernCorps is planning more energy efficiency activities for the summer and fall months and will provide those details to the public as events grow near.
