BAKERSFIELD – In-Shape Health Clubs has announced the addition of Catalin Chira as Director of Tennis/Head Tennis Pro for their Laurel Glen facility.  Chira will play a critical role in developing Laurel Glen’s tennis programs, a cornerstone of In-Shape’s Bakersfield expansion located at 6901 Ming Ave.  In-Shape is one of the fastest-growing fitness and health companies in the country and the largest gym chain in the region.

 

“We’re thrilled to bring someone of Catalin’s caliber onto our staff,” said Melissa Garcia, In-Shape Laurel Glen’s General Manager. “Catalin is an accomplished international player and coach and has taught some of the best in the game.  We’re confident he will help make Laurel Glen into the preeminent tennis club in Bakersfield.”

 

Chira comes to In-Shape from Toronto, Canada, where he worked for several tennis clubs and trained players that competed at the highest levels in national tournaments.  Originally from Romania, he was a Top 10 national player in his youth and founded a tennis club that garnered media attention all over Eastern Europe.

 

Over the last 12 years, Chira has traveled to international tennis symposiums and taught the sport to all ages.  “I am particularly proud of my Junior’s program,” said Chira, “Many of my juniors have competed in tournaments and national championships, including 9-year-old Austin Johnson, who is currently ranked #7 in Northern California and was named best player in his age group!”

 

As Director of Tennis/Head Tennis Pro, Chira will focus on building new programs and events, coaching members, and teaching techniques that can dramatically improve anyone’s level of play. “I have so much passion for what I do,” says Chira. “I can’t wait to share it with In-Shape’s members.”
