California State University, Bakersfield and the CSUB Antelope Valley
Center will move to a compressed summer operating schedule beginning July
7 through August 29, with most facilities closing on Fridays. The majority
of offices on campus will be open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through
Thursday.
The exception to this schedule will be the week of July 28 – August 1 when
the campuses will operate on a normal 8-hour, Monday – Friday schedule to
comply with applicable labor laws.
As in past summers, this schedule enables the university to realize
substantial budget savings by reducing energy consumption. University
officials indicated the expected energy savings from the compressed work
schedules to be approximately $48,700.
“The cost savings are especially important this year as we anticipate
state budget reductions,” said President Horace Mitchell. “Additionally,
given the significant rise in gasoline prices, the compressed work week
will allow us to join with employers across the nation in helping
employees save on commute costs.”
Summer school courses will not be impacted by the compressed operating
schedule as no classes have been scheduled on Fridays.
