CSUB social work professor selected for national academy in aging

Bruce Friedman, professor of social work at California State University, Bakersfield, has been selected by the New York Academy of Medicine to participate in the Social Work Leadership Institute. Friedman was selected from a national pool of candidates.

"I am honored to be viewed as a national leader in the area of aging education," Friedman said. "The information from the institute's programs will come right back to the students at CSUB. My goal is to keep the CSUB social work program and our students on the forefront of aging care which is a quickly developing career area."

SWLI is a national initiative working to ensure American's older adults receive the care they need to live life to the fullest -- and that their caregivers also get the support they deserve. SWLI aims to increase the number of social workers who specialize in aging; advance the field of aging care through research and best practices; forge alliances to advocate on behalf of older adult care and relief for their caregivers; and move policy that will encourage care coordination for older adults.

As part of the institute, Friedman will participate in four leadership programs to be held in New York, Pennsylvania and California. The cost of the training, approximately $10,000, will be paid through a grant from the Hartford Foundation.

Good for him. CSUB has done nothing but try to cheat its students, as far as I've seen--and I've looked. Their horrible reputation is so deserved, and they seem to make no moves to improve it. It's been a monster to me, other members of my family, and my friends. I disuade everyone I know from attending that "school." Coincidently, today, in a doctor's office, I spoke to yet another woman who had horrible experiences with that place. (Maybe it wasn't a coincidence: It happens so often!) AVOID CSUB!!!!!
