Ceramic Tile is glossy requiring proper preparation for refinishing. There are many, and I do mean many websites handing out bad information on just how to paint ceramic tiles. Painting ceramic tile requires a bonding agent to be applied prior to painting the tile. Not just any bonding agent and not Kilz or some other shellac product. Tile specific primers or bonding agents are needed like the bonding primers supplied in kits available from the Bathtub Refinishing Referral Network for a long lasting finish on your ceramic tile surfaces.
Oil based paints are another product that will not adhere to ceramic tile. Most consumers have realized that painting tile with an oil based paint ends up costing you a lot of time once it peels off, and it will peel in a very short time once water and heat are introduced to the finish. Save yourself some time and do the job right. Epoxy based products are the only coatings we recommend for ceramic tile reglazing. They are waterproof, non toxic when dry, withstand over 250 degree temperatures and are the most durable paints available for ceramic tile resurfacing.
Our brush roll on epoxy painting kits for ceramic tile may be used on countertops, bathtub surrounds, tiled showers, and spa or pool tiles. Our coatings are so durable they may be applied to floor tile in commercial or residential applications with heavy foot traffic. May be used on exterior as well as interior ceramic tile. Please keep in mind on most applications the tile grout will also be coated.
