Lions Club International: Who we are and what we do
Lions Clubs International is the largest community service organization in the world with over 1.3 million members in 202 countries. There are 14 clubs in Kern County to serve our community. Kern County clubs have purchased companion dogs for the blind, eye glasses for children in need, eye surgeries for those in need, hearing aids, and a Habitat for Humanity house in Arvin. We have service youth programs for children 11 to 13 in our peace poster contest, and high school students through our student speaker program (the winner receives a scholarship of up to $20,000).
Bakersfield Lions Clubs are now raising money for BARC (Bakersfield Association for Retarded Citizens). They have a program called "MOVE" which is a therapeutic program for people with physical disabilities. We are attempting to raise $30,000. All donations are accepted. For more information, call Joe Giuffre at 324-2282.
