Hi all, this is a little long so please bear with me. In July, 2005, I was waiting for the light to change on my way to work. Looking out into the center divider I thought I saw a ring lying on the ground. The light changed and I went on to work.
This happened for at least a week. The divider is between a bar and a mini-mart so the chance of it being a bottle cap or a tab was quite high. I was at the light the next time and the sun hit it just right and I saw it flash blue.
I braved traffic and retrieved it. Sure enough it was a women’s class ring from Cement, Oklahoma, 1981. There were some initials inside. I found a Web site called classringfinder.com where you input lost and found class ring info.
I never heard anything back from it. As time went by the little ring got dropped in a jar and went on the shelf. I found it the other day and thought I would give a shot at finding the owner.
I got on the Web and found the phone number to Cement High School. I called the school and explained I had found a ring and was looking for the owner. The woman took the info from the ring and my phone number. She called me back a few hours later — here's the cool part — the owner’s mother still works on the school board.
The next day I got a call from a woman who was just beside herself. Her mom had called her and asked if she had lost her class ring. She had lost it 25 years ago and never had the nerve to tell her mom. She broke down and cried for several minutes while I talked to her and heard her story of being one of six kids and how the cost of the ring was a real burden on her parents.
She asked my story of finding it and was shocked to find out I'm in Bakersfield. She told me she has never been west of oklahoma ever.
That evening her husband called me and said she was still crying and told me he had bought her a replacement ring about 10 years ago and that she had also lost it. After describing the ring they believe that I have found the first ring. The husband said that he had been to California once but it was a few years after the second ring was lost.
It would be cool to hear the story behind the ring’s travels. The only thing I can think of is someone was sitting at the same stop light and thought it worthless and tossed it out the window.
So now I will drop it in the mail and its adventure can continue. She now lives in Krebs, Okla.
I would like see if anyone with info on this ring would come forward. We would really like to find even a small piece of its history.
