How many of you can agree with me that Bakersfield needs more bike-friendly roads? I think so because there aren't enough of them. Too many of our roads are too narrow or too rough. And some drivers are way too inconsiderate to share the road with bicyclists. I...

The Golden Empire Classic and SCNCA Road Race Championships were held in Bakersfield and Oildale this weekend.
Here are a few blog postings from the cycling races.

I've heard from several people that Bakersfield is not a friendly town toward cyclists.
Take Arin Resnicke, for instance. This avid Bakersfield cyclist has not only been hit by a pizza delivery driver but has had objects thrown at him, insults shouted at him and a group of guys hit him with...

The Saturday ride at 2pm had about 10-15 riders that lucked out and enjoyed some decent weather before all the rain on Sunday. We went out to Fairfax and Alfred Harrel Hwy, then down Refrigerator and up Rattlesnake. Hope Bob gets his chain fixed and makes it back out next...

The remaining riders are spinning through the final laps of the Champs-Elysees.
Our office pool yielded no out-and-out winner, though Jeff's pick (Levi) is on the podium.
Congratulations, and au revoir!

It's Friday, Contie in yellow, blah blah...
Sorry, but I can't really get excited about Disco's impending "win" this year.
Highlights have been Linus Gerdemann and Mauricio Soler. If either of them turn out to be dopers I'm gonna go home and weep in my steroids.
Time...

CyclingNews' live coverage Thursday featured this photo with the cutline:
Sunflowers turned their backs.
Dang, even the flowers are critics! Poor dopers.
Yahoo's live coverage momentarily gave it up:

Late night news round-up:
Kazakhi denial
The BBC reports Kazakh media haven't mentioned the news lately:
"There has been no word in the Kazakh media that Mr Vinokourov has tested positive for blood doping.
Neither is there any mention of the fact that his team, Astana,...

Rabobank boots Rasmussen!! Holy skull-poke, Batman!!
Ras didn't even test positive (yet).
But Rabobank said No No Nanette because he'd lied about his whereabouts when missing a June test date, Velonews reports. Or CyclingNews, or both.
So we've lost: Team Astana and Team Cofidis for...

Luckily, or whatever, turns out the latest...

Liggett and Sherwen kept commenting on Contador's ongoing attacks during today's final climb as clever psychological assaults, etc
Meanwhile, I was more impressed by Rasmussen/Skeletor's quick responses and clever wheel-sucking. He stayed right on the tail of the turbo-accelerating Disco...

Contador and Ras take it to the finish, where the Disco-boy shows hips for the stage win. Ras keeps yellow.
Discovery now has two riders in the top 5. The "plan" seems to be going well.
Will Levi be coming forth or is Contie the new strong man of Disco-land?
P.S: Pat- love...

Wacky central. Did anyone expect Ras to be in yellow at the end of the TT today?
Did ANYONE think he would PASS....I'm talkin' PASS!!....Valverde???
And how 'bout Vino. He's back.
Tomorrow should be even better.

Sinkewitz has tested positive for testosterone, CyclingNews reports. The B sample has yet to be tested.
T-Mobile appears to be handling it proactively, at least.
Please clean up, boys. Please.

After this morning's Marseille finish, Rasmussen cleared up rumors about tension in the Rabobank bus by saying it was clear he is now the team leader. (I didn't find any comments from Menchov, so we'll see if Denis can support Ras or if he'll pout.)

Is this the best Tour or what?
Us die-hard cycling fans at The Californian LOVE Ze Tour.

Again, I circled some local blocks this evening. This time, for some reason, I was a little nervous. I am uneasy getting used to the gears and brakes and whatever, and paid more attention to that than on my first ride. Plus, some jerk in a big pickup came speeding down Holtby, disregarding cross...

Well, I finally did it. After four years in Bakersfield, I bought a bicycle. Not a brand new one...just a simple one with handlebars I can reach without putting my chin down to them.
My bike has ten speeds, which I'm sure I'll never use, and fenders front and back. It was made probably in the...

I saw it again today. I see it all the time, everywhere...Bicyclists ignoring the laws the rest of us have to obey. I'm not talking about the ones who ride bikes because they lost their licenses over a DUI or people who ride because they won't work and can't afford a car. I expect nothing from...
