As you regular blog readers already knew, the deadline for the Ken Weir recall to make it onto the November ballot has come and gone, leaving the recallers to work toward a March 3 election.
“Mr. Winn and others have not been honest or forthright throughout this entire process so it is no...

Three of Bakersfield's city council members are up for re-election or retirement this year, and the process starts Monday.
Prospective candidates can pull papers beginning Monday, and then must collect 20-30 signatures from registered voters in the ward by Aug. 8.
If an incumbent doesn't file...

Attached are the two letters, one sent by the Ken Weir recallers, the other sent by Weir.
I fact-checked both, but the post was eaten. Rar. So let me just say, the recallers use "detractors" incorrectly, and the idea of this being a "well-planned conspiracy" makes me giggle....

I live and work in Sue Benham's ward, so I didn't get a letter from Ken Weir this weekend. Anybody get one? I'd love to see a copy.

So, how's it going?
I asked Will Winn that late yesterday afternoon, and he said he's gotten just a few reports from the weekend's signature-gathering. He was pessimistic, at that point, about getting enough signatures to make it in time for November.
Then, apparently, he hit the sidewalks...

So, Ms. Barnett has suspended all marriages. This is a bold move. I have wondered whether or not to support her decision. So?
The fact of the matter is that Ms. Barnett reports to the people. She is an elected official. Just like Ken Weir must report to the...

Thursday afternoon I checked the mailbox, and to my surprise I found a letter from the Recall Ken Weir group. I was so excited. As some of you know, I have been very anxious to sign the petition for his recall.
During the time I've waited for the petition, I have had a chance to...

Bakersfield City Councilman Ken Weir responded to my questions about the recall proponents. I didn't ask him about Hillside or Johnson; those have been beaten to death, and will continue to be. Here's his response:
James –
You have selected four people out of the hundreds of telephone...

City Clerk Pam McCarthy has rejected the Ken Weir recall petition due to what she called "minor typographical issues." She said they're minor enough that the proponents can pick the petition up tomorrow morning, open whatever word processor they used and get a version back to her...

The people who want Ken Weir to not be a city councilman anymore have their reasons. Ken Weir has answers. I took a look at both and started digging around, and learned a lot.
Like, all about accountants' ethics. And the history of the Hillside Ordinance (which mostly happened before my time)....

Bakersfield City Councilman Ken Weir yesterday submitted his official response to the proponents' statement of why he should be recalled. Recall organizer Will Winn has now come up with a response to the response:
The residents of the Third Ward are being given a tremendous opportunity in this...

I was pleased to hear today that Mr. Weir has been served recall papers. I have been disappointed in times past of people who are not willing to leave their computer desk and actually DO what they believe needs to be done.
Our public officials must act in a public sphere. No hiding...

Once again I am tired. I am tired of seeing shady and corrupt public officials in government. I have Weir on my mind.
John McCain seems to think that it is okay to limit how much can be given to a political candidate. I see this as an affront to freedom of speech (which must...

I just talked to political consultant Stan Harper, who said he'd been asked by some folks — he wouldn't say who — to look into what it would take to recall Councilman Ken Weir. He said he heard that there was a meeting Sunday night at a home in the Third Ward. He said 40 people...
