The end is near ?
I saw a mini-van the other day that had "Jesus is coming soon – are you ready" painted on the back window in big letters. I was in a car-pool in Washington D. C. with a gentleman who was always talking about "the end" being soon. One day he announced that he would not be in our car-pool any longer. He was packing up his wife and kids, quitting his high paying government job and moving to Kansas to await "the end". That was 1980 – 29 years ago! I wonder where that guy is today - and his kids. Poor misguided fool. 6 comments from 6 users

The end for each of us will come right this instant up to several decades from now. Are you ready, Freddy? Ditto for the end of the world, except it could take longer. Perhaps the guy is a fool for overreacting. What does that make those who are underreacting, may I ask? posted by

It doesn't sound like you know what this guy has done in the last 29 years, yet you assume he is a "fool". What is it they say about you/me and assume? posted by

He was packing up his wife and kids, quitting his high paying government job and moving to Kansas to await "the end". Do you remember hearing about the radio show back in the 1930's, where the announcer was reading a script about extraterrestrials taking over the earth? My mom told me that people actually had to be stopped from killing themselves and their families out of fear, because they thought it was real and not just a story. The guy from Kansas kinda reminds me of those people, making life decisions based on something they were told, that no one can prove. posted by

The 7th-Day Adventist Church began that way.

About the same time, I knew a woman who packed up and left for the midwest because she didn't think it, she knew, California was going to split and half the state go under the ocean. Looking back, maybe she knew something I didn't. California certainly is falling apart. posted by

Ghostriter it was War of the Worlds. It wasn't about extraterrestrial's taking over it was about aliens, ILLEGAL aliens! As opposed to the legal kind we hear about in the news.
