I'll be appearing at the Virgin Megastore at Hollywood and Highland Sunday July 13 for the "Rock N Read." I'm bringing two Bakersfield Bands: Norfolk and Dirty Spanglish. I'll be reading some kind of essay piece...

Now check out my related review of Stephanie Kuehnert's punk-crazy novel, "I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone" in the ABC23 article: "Author Of New MTV Novel Fuses Music, Literature." - Nick, ABC23

Excerpt:

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Fist-in-your-face fiction may have hit the literary mainstream decades ago via the Beat Generation, but that doesn’t mean there’s no room for new gender perspectives and love stories set in the gritty dives of American subculture.

Stephanie Kuehnert’s MTV Books novel, “I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone” reflects on female misadventures and coming of age in the male-dominated music underground of the 1980s and 1990s. It’s an ode to music scenes, anti-mainstream culture and girl rock bands.

My latest article is an interesting debate: A mommy blogger claims she's bullied by another mommy blogger.  Mamalogues.com claims Momologue.com is infringing. Is she? You make the call. And how would you feel if you were told to cease and desist your site that you'd been blogging on for several years and told to pay $2,500 dollars? Watch the attached video.

Excerpt: Mommy Blogger Claims Bullying By Mommy Blog:

FRESNO, Calif. -- Fresno mommy-blogger Genevieve Hinson said a recent cease-and-desist letter from St. Louis blogger, Dana Loesch, wrongly claims infringement over blog territory.

According to Hinson, author of Momologue.com, she’s being bullied by Loesch’s lawyers to give up her DNS and domain name, cease all related blogging, refrain from using momologue and any variation of it online and pay $2,500 in court fees.

While cyberbullying is often referred to when minors embarrass or attack other minors online, Hinson said, “It does feel like a case of cyberbullying if I don’t give them what they’re asking for.”

Check out some YouTube video of Travis Rasmussen at the 2008 California State High School Wrestling Championships held in Bakersfield. I posted almost half of his match. I also included some video of his interview with ABC23.

You can also peek at a slideslow.

Jeff Smolek, the martial-arts stuntman from "Batman Forever," helped direct and choreograph fight scenes in the local short film, "Batman Darkness." But that didn't stop Batman from blowing a knee...

A sign of the times? Maybe.

I was driving past the broken seal in downtown Bakersfield on Sunday and saw a police technician vehicle. (My kid actually spotted that the seal on the child services/forensics building had snapped in two).

The technician was outside sweeping up the mess. "Don't put me in the photo," she asked. So I obliged. She said it was too bad I didn't show up sooner, because she said a big chunk of the seal that fell was really heavy to move.

Read the full article and view a slideshow of the mess.
