Life from the ABC23 fishbowl

I thought I would add an image today from inside my office. My office is a little room that one cameraman calls, “the fishbowl.”

Actually the room has been expanded after starting out as a little closet. I joked that I would be glad to hang anyone's coat before work got underway to knock out a wall.

Looking out from my fishbowl you can see into what looks like an empty ABC23 newsroom.

Don’t let the photo fool you.

There are a few people in the room. Jay Jones is working the phones on the assignment desk while the scanner blasts into the room.

A few reporters sit tucked out of sight, working on who knows what--probably tonight's big stories.

Today is one of those days in the newsroom that starts off a million miles an hour.

There’s the morning news meeting, the ideas flying through the air like darting hummingbirds, the reporters and camera folks taking off to assignments.

I, on the other hand, quietly retire to my fishbowl.

It’s not like yesterday where I took off to greet Brian “Head” Welch at the marketplace and snapped photos while schmoozing with Meaty from KRAB. Today I update news stories on the web, peer into the newsroom now and then.

I listen to news stories that are discussed, and reporter's personal stories.

One reporter was bit by a spider. Another discusses a theft that happens to a friend. Someone else talks about a kitten seen in a trash can.

All while the news rolls on.

More soon...

In the meantime, check out our latest stories.

Refreshing to hear about people not taking themselves so seriously in the news.

Tell the folks there, I'm so freaking tired of the ShopKern.com commercial.....geez, get some folks to buy more ad time on air so you don't have to keep playing that lame ad.....AAAAAHHHHHH!   Thank you....

We use the rubber bands to shoot at the weather guy.

Where do you keep the rolls of paper and barrels of Ink? Not to mention the tons of rubber bands.bigemo_harabe_net-98.gif

Bakonative: There's definitely an adrenaline rush that comes with hearing breaking news and watching how the newsroom juggles the day's stories...

Rachel: You're right, I've heard both stories about the fishbowl being an editing room, and twice, a closet.

There's a lot of media history around the ABC23 newsroom. I'm sure the walls will tell me more stories the longer I hang around all the excitement...

I haven't been to the 23 Newsroom in a long time but if my recollection is correct the room that is your office used to be an editing room and a closet all in one :)

I remember nearly hyperventilating in that room when I was all of 18 years old and the News Director at the time (Walt Brown) allowed me to be an intern.

From your vantage point I can see the spot where I once opened public service announcements and listened to the briing scanner while going gaga over the reporters and anchors..Jim Scott,Robin Mangarin,Lisa Kimble,Gayle Asayama,Karl Scheweitzer and (may he rest in peace) Ron Fineman:)

I love that newsroom,I hope you do too! Thanks for the memories!!

Sounds like working at a TV station would be pretty exciting! All breaking news heard by you first hand! Thanks for the photo!

It sure isn't boring in the newsroom!

Unless you count the time everyone was talking about Lindsay Lohan... bleah.

Sounds like a fun place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there  :)
