I examined the tiger attack at the San Francisco Zoo on my ABC23 Nick 2.0 blog (click on local section or blogs) by examining tiger-related videos. Check the YouTube video attached. It's getting a lot of hits...and let me know your thoughts... - Nick, ABC23 I thought I'd try the lighter side of the news here: Leave a comment if you like... - Nick, ABC23 Leave a comment for or against on Mike Hart's blog titled, "Don't Blame The Dog." My comment is at end of his blog... - Nick, ABC23 What more can I say? Truck crashes, turkeys die on road... I edited this raw video which is also on cnn.com today... Warning: gets gruesome at the end... - Nick, ABC23 I wrote a Nick 2.0 blog post about Bakersfield.com's Camille Gavin, who wrote the historical work, Dear Cora. How rare are great love stories, especially real stories over 100 years old? Some of you know I'm a novelist as well as managing editor for ABC23. Read my post at TheNervousBreakdown.com, "Phone Call From A Small Town Mayor About Devil Children And The Lords Of Bakersfield." I write about the forthcoming sequel to Lords: Part One. - Nick, ABC23 I pieced together this video from a raw tape one of our cameramen brought back from the scene... - Nick, ABC23 Jackie wants to know how as a parent do you deal with the idea of Santa Klaus as being real or not? Parks writes: What have I done? I have set my child up for the same disappointing sugar plum-crushing Christmas I experienced in my childhood. Maybe not this year, or even next. But one day he’s going to look at me and say, “You lied about the whole thing, didn’t you?” I make a big deal about telling the truth and this one bugs me more than I can express.
As some of you know I also write for the LA-based group literary blog, thenervousbreakdown.com. My latest entry, "What Is The Citrus Girl? Memoir, Fiction, Or Just A Shelved American Dream-Girl?" is a creative non-fiction discussion of a book I finished writing in 1998.
I hope you take a look and leave a comment as I tackle the idea about whether the book is fiction or memoir. Nick, ABC23 Nick Belardes of ABC23 got Al Whatmough's video of a cat stuck in a tree for ten days jumping 60-70 feet out of a tree. Several people got stuck in the tree trying to get the cat. Two firetrucks, animal control and a pruner truck tried to rescue the weary beast. It finally crawled into a car engine... ABC23 Article
Bakersfield Celtic band, Whiskey Galore, who have more bagpipes in their music than your home has water pipes, just went into the studio to record their 4th album.
They had an in-studio audience to cheer along and sing and I recorded some of that as well as bagpipes, uillean pipes and interviews. Watch the attached video! Check out more on the ABC23 Buzz Bands blog. Dr. Gary B. Nash, who is the Director of National Center for History in the Schools, and also a professor at UCLA spoke out about the 'In God We Trust' debate. So stop by and read what Nash and I have to say. And leave a comment if you like whether you agree or disagree. - Nick, ABC23 I have a video now for you talking about all the photos I've added from this past weekend's football action. If you have any relatives in the BHS/BC games, please let them know. Also, don't forget to add a comment to this story on local legacies... just scroll until you see the football photos on thenervousbreakdown.com. Nick, ABC23
This past weekend I got to hang out on football fields for the first time in two games that are sure to leave legacies in the already hip-deep legacies of Bakersfield football. Although you can see a slideshows at www.turnto23.com and on our 23 Yardline page of photos I took, I also wrote a piece for a website called thenervousbreakdown.com.
I posted about football there because it's a great avenue to expose Bakersfield football to an LA audience and it allows for more creative writing. Even the titles are supposed to be long and creative. Thus, if you like the Bakersfield gridiron, go there, read, "A Bakersfield Band, Valley Championship Football, Frank Gifford And The Wide World Of Sports (Including Evil Knievel Wipeouts), And Don't Forget Sidelines Of The SoCal Championships," and post your own tales of Bako football. Nick, ABC23 PS, and there's more pics! This video came from the Kern County Fire Department. It shows a man being rescued from a sand avalanche. We also have the article, "Fire Crews Work To Free Man From Collapsed Sand Berm" on ABC23. The story was featured on the homepage of CNN throughout the day. Thank you Kern County Fire Department for the video and Bakersfield.com for having cool blogs and bloggers! - Nick, ABC23 Steven Stewart, the victim of the botched murder plot against him has spoken out via a letter to ABC23. You can find links to the entire letter on the Nick 2.0 blog. - Nick, ABC23 |
