The week of 9-7-09 thru 9-13-09

Another great week at Trouts Nightclub & The Bakersfield Stages.

We started Monday off with a bang. We had a tour bus with some folks from France. We had a blast! There were around 50 people. There were awesome steak dinners catered by the Highland Cafe. The Blackboard Playboys played music and all we dancing and having a great time. I even saw a line dance I had never seen before. Great night.

Tuesday afternoon Rockwell and part of the Blackboard Playboys played some music for the Farmers Market in Oildale. They have great brown eggs. I suggest you get some, along with all of the fresh fruits and vegetables.

Wednesday we had our jam session from 9 to 11pm. It's always fun on jam nights. Marc Madewell came and sat in as well as Ben.

Thursday was another great jam session night from 9 to 11pm. We had Marc Madewell, Barbara Cheatwood, Mel Linton, Rick Keen on dobro and David Carpenter.

Friday was a fun night. The Blackboard Playboys played from 8:30 to 1:30. We had guest musicians that came up and played with us, Marc Madewell, Rudy Paris & Ronnie Branson. Local musicians Barbara Cheatwood, Mel Linton and Barbara's son Lee came in to visit. We had at least two birthday celebrations, Anna & Kimberly.

Saturday night The Blackboard Playboys played from 8:30 to 1:30. Rockwell got up and sang with us. He's done a little something new with an old George Jones song. You need to come out and hear it! We had guest musicians with Marc Madewell and Rick Keene.

Sunday, the big jam session day. Music with some of The Blackboard Playboys from 4pm till 11pm. We had a lot of great talent Sunday the 13th. Ed Shaw, George Tillett, Rockwell, Barbara Cheatwood, Mel Linton, Merle, Rick Keene, Marc Madewell and Dallon.

Come out 7 nights a week and have some fun!

Sounds like lots of fun, thanks, in a big part, to Rockwell, who has been in the studio with me and Mark Yearly lately, in case you hadn't noticed on some of the blog posts here.  Doesn't Rockwell sound great on this song?

From Buck Owens Blvd to Merle Haggard Drive

Dr BLT and Rockwell

produced by Rockwell; engineered by Mark Yeary; instrumentation by Mark Yeary; vocals by Dr BLT and Rockwell.  Also, check him out on Oildale Limousine on one of the blogs nearby, posted below.   Rockwell's vocals also earned a little praise from a local writer as they appear on another Dr BLT/Rockwell collaboration, White Lies about White Guys.

We all knew that Rockwell runs the last standing honky-tonk among those spawned in the early days of the Bakersfield sound, and that there's always excitement going on over there at Trout's.   What some of you didn't know was that Rockwell is now a recording artist, and a very good one at that.
