AudreyB - > Bakersfield Boomers -> Would you lie to get a flu shot?
Would you lie to get a flu shot?

Health care providers report  that some people standing in line for an H1N1 flu shot are declaring a pre existing condition or pregnancy in order to get a shot when they are, in fact, lying.

This is forcing health providers to question people more closely who, don' t,  obviously, fall into the target categories.    They are forced into acting as the flu police.

Are you panicked enough to lie for a shot?

I"ll get the flu vaccine after every child in America who wants a shot  has been given one.

I'm getting vibes of a national panic in the making.

Check the actual death rates of all the flu pandemics and compare the numbers to the swine flu "pandemic."  I'm on antibiotics and being scheduled for a test in the next few weeks.  My doctor told me to hold off on any flu shots until all the antibiotics are gone.  That didn't sound like she was too concerned at the moment so I'm not either.

My only concern is that I keep an 18 month old 2 days a week and he's in day care the other 3.  He shares all his colds and sniffles with me bless his little heart.  On the other hand, I don't want to pass anything like flu on to him should I get it first. My plan is to get a regular flu shot and not worry about the other for now.  Like Audrey, I want the kids to get theirs first.   Who knows, if we can keep the kids from getting it, the rest of us will be in better shape for not getting it at all.

I'd lie to avoid one.  :-)

No. For me, a lie would make me sicker than any flu.

I am working on my grief post~ and the panic that may be out there ties in nicely with the subject.

Personally I hold that there is no reason to panic but every reason to be sensible. Wash your hands, cover that cough and stay isolated if you become sick. Rest, drink plenty of fluids and if you haven't bounced back in a few days~ seek an E.R.

To quote Dune: Fear is the mind killer. Never move in fear.

~~ Flu's mutate anyways, what are we gonna do next year when it's even a stronger strain?

I have never gotten a flu shot, nor will i this year.

My hubby wants us all to get the H1N1 vaccine, but we are a normal healthy family....I dont see the point for us personally.

Should I have our kids vaccinated?   (They are 15 y/o and 13 y/o ??)

I'm one of the "expendables"  Too old.  I would not get one if I could.  I get a regular flu shot every year.

im not understanding this..i go to my GP and he has a sign on the wall stating flu shots are availabe..no criteria required..this is for the greneral flu vacc..same thing every year at this time..if your healthy i would wait and see with the swine flu..Im, sure thats the main reason they are suggesting the more vulnerable get theirs first...its not the Titanic ..in my opinion its just the flu to a healthy individual..

if you look on the CDC site it states that you are no longer contagious after 24 hours once the fever breaks ...some people we know are acting like its lepoarasy or the plague...two weeks without symptoms and they still run for cover..BOO!

I get a flu vaccine shot every year, but I wouldn't lie to get the H1N1 vaccine.

I did however lie to get a new supply of Tamaflu about 18 months ago. It became very hard to obtain during the Avian Flu scare, because western governments had began stockpiling, and are still doing so today. I told the Doc I was traveling to Asia.

Because I was the only available care giver for my ailing Mom, being down with a severe flu would have been a dangerous problem. She has since passed away.

I've used Tamaflu twice previously when I contracted the flu, and it's a very effective antiviral medication, but you must have it on hand when the first symptoms appear. Shelf life is about 3 years.

I would never lie to get a flu shot.   I do not plan to get either type of flu shot.  I am allergic to raw eggs.  Flu vaccines often contain egg proteins.  I would need to get flu shots from an allergist who could then monitor my reaction.  http://www.acaai.org/public...   My oldest son has no spleen.  Every year I encourage him to get his flu shot early.  He mostly ignores me.  Sigh....He may be an adult but he's still my baby.  I will worry about him throughout the flu season.  In one of his college classes there are only five students NOT out sick with some type of flu.

I've no use for any adult who lies. Children lie. At my age I doubt I'd be able to remember what lie I told. It's so muchy easier to tell the truth you don't have to remember anything.

I probably have a condition that would allow me to get the shot but my GP said he would suggest I wait. Just don't know enough about this vaccine yet. I do get the regular flu shot each year tho.

Caterine and I stood in line for 2 hours and 50 minutes yesterday so that the grandkids could get a flu shot.  It wasn't easy but it was worth while.

I held a place for Cat until she could pick up the grandson from school.  Since I was standing alone the lady in front of me assumed I was getting a shot for myself.  I told her "no" I just holding a spot.

She then started to encourage me to tell the screeners that I have a pre existing condition so that I could get a shot too.  I got the feeling that she was going to use this excuse for herself.   There was a younger woman 4 or 5 people in back of me.  She did a lot of complaining.  Her condition was "pregnancy".   You could have fooled me, I thought she was fat.

I felt sorry for all the little ones in line.  Nothing to do.  No where to potty.  Nothing to eat.  They were tired and cranky.  But they were little troopers moving along as the line moved!

Kudos to all the little guys in line.

All in all, it went well.  But my back gave out before we reached the end.  Needless to say, this old grandma bought a fast food dinner and  went to bed early last night!

When BFMC was giving free regular flu and pneumonia shots out for members a couple of weeks ago, the line was unbelievabe but they were giving out water and had portable toilets.  I didn't stay because I had another place to be at noon and wouldn't have made it.  You'd think where kids were in a long wait they'd have done the same for you.

I'll have to go back on the 7th and stand in line then.

Nancy

Go with a full stomach, an emply bladder, a portable chair, reading material, a light jacket and dark glasses (so you can avoid talking to people who want to tell you their life story).

I've got one of those faces that encourage people to talk!!
