AARP endorses House healthcare reform bill

By Jeffrey Young - 11/05/09 11:55 AM ET

Democrats scored a huge coup Thursday when the AARP announced its endorsement of the House healthcare bill.

The public support from the seniors’ lobby comes just two days before House members are set to vote on the landmark legislation.

The AMA has also come out endorsing the house bill.

The scoreboard

AARP and AMA  vs.  Insurance Companies and their lobbyists

Who would you rather trust with your health care?    Your doctor or your insurance company.

Doctors won't be making decisions.  Obamas government will.

Not many informed seniors respect the AARP..they see it as a money making machine and not in their favor

I won't be giving AARP one shiny penny when I turn 50 next week. Djembe/Taoking, enjoy!

And if the doctor decides that a woman's decision to have an abortion is the correct choice, you'd help defend her right?  I'm sure *PAX* would.  But then, he seems to admire that nutcase Bachmann.

Fully 3,500* teabaggers came out to hear her siren shriek yesterday in Washington.  And Boehner made the same boneheaded blunder that Pax did, on camera.

(*Or 3.5 million, if you heard it on Fox.)

AARP ain't getting any of my money either.  But it's because they've sided with the conservatives and insurance companies too often.

Yes, attack the organizations who have come together to work for a better reality than the one we have today. We saw the pie in the sky Republican plan that the CBO lambasted this week as costing more and providing less, and all of that without going through any committee to get revised or tweaked like the several plans put forth by the Democrats. Attack everything that promises a change in the way we do things. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense given the terrible condition our health care system finds itself in now.

that depends...if her life was threatened with the pregnancy, or the baby wouldnt have a good chance at having a semi-normal life...then yes, i would support that

but if it was one for convenience, so as to not make her butt bigger etc, then no...i wouldnt

please explain Adam how this house bill is a better reality than we have today?  it creates more govt beauracracy, and would take 10 years to pay off 3 years of health care.......which would lead to..............HIGHER TAXES....

imo./..thats not a better reality than what im living in now

So Sioux, Pax and Ron who do you trust the most to look out for your health?    Your doctor or the insurance company who has been in bed with Michele Bachmann romancing her vote.

Not many informed seniors respect the AARP   Sioux where is your source for this statement.  I looked on the internet and couldn't find a source.     The AARP is in the business of advising seniors on matters which benefit those seniors the most.  As a result seniors LOVE the AARP.     But what do I know, I'm just a member of AARP.

I'm nobody's fool.  I trust the AARP to look after my age group, at times to the detriment of those younger than myself.   I read the monthly magazine from cover to cover and have received a lot of vital infomation from it.  Do you get their magazine each month.  I thought not.

It covers more people who cannot get coverage today.

It would lower government costs.

It would be a short step in the right direction towards reforming an industry which is worsening each year.

Your current reality bears little relation to the real world, but that's not *OUR* problem, it's yours.

And you admittedly support interfering with the doctor-patient relationship, thinking you know better than the doctor and the patient.  I certainly don't want *YOU* making decisions for my health care.

In that case we'll be the only industrialized nation in the world to have third world health care.

The GOP is intent on running this country into the ground based on their addiction to a never ending supply of lobbyist money.

Big business (insurance companies) don't need to spend much advertising because they're getting their legwork done for free.  They learned the secret to successful lobbying.  Manipulate the dumbest of their constituents into making the loudest noise.  Make a minority sound like a majority.  Manipulate them with fear, religion and bigotry.  Appeal to their basest emotions and they'll die for you.

Liberals -  the last bastion for intellectuals and those who hunger for freedom.

The 3,500 protesters were bussed into Washington. Same rerun. I didn't see a black or brown face in the crowd. Nor did I note anyone who said they have no health insurance because they can't afford it. What I did see on the news was a bunch of emotional white people who got theirs and the millions of uninsured is not their problem.

I also noted one frantic woman wailing, "I want my country back." That seems to be a siren call replacing, "Drill, baby, drill."  Neither makes sense to me. But don't say conservative positions and the GOP has eroded to a platform for exclusion. That's socialist.

It's getting to where I am wondering if there is a sane person in the Republican party anymore.

Perhaps it's because they know that universal health coverage actually works and improves overall health, as it has for most of their members.

You don't have to agree with Kristof's opinions, but the numbers and where the US ranks in the world on healthcare speak for themselves.

That is a rather un-scientific conclusion Sioux, I really think it just sour grapes about an organization representing 50mm people coming out in favor of badly needed reform.

This healthcare will gut Medicare and force us to buy health care from others. AARP hopes we will buy our new health care insurance from them so they can *STEAL* even more money from the elderly on Social Security.  I found insurance for my car and home much less expensive elsewhere than the quotes I got from AARP.
